james_walleye
Anyone got any tricks for dealing with touchy walleyes that are plump full of mayflys?
Northlander
Lindy rigging with 1/2 crawler or a slow death rig. Small gold spinner with 1 aberdeen hook and 1/2 crawler.

That's what I was going to say.The guys on Lake Erie fish with a rig called a mayfly rig, it is a small spinner blade, a few orange beads, and an aberdeen style hook and a 1/2 crawler. paceman
I have also done well with a white ot light colored gum drop floater with a small leech fished over muddy bottoms.
BobT
I haven't tried this but do you suppose it would work to think more like ticking them off? Perhaps using a more aggressive approach such as speed trolling crank baits and such.

Northlander
Also try a small goldish spin n glow and slowly pump it. It will fall and rise in the water and look like a mayfly coming to the surface. Copper, yellow and even black would work too.
Jordpederson
Feed them a little line when you fell the bite helps

Northlander
Macs Smiley Blades can also do the trick at times.
Further North
A guy up in Canada suggested a smallish gold floating Rapala jerked right under the surface, right in the middle of the hatch.Worked for me...and I never would have thought of it...Failing that, try a mayfly dry fly...
