looking for a rapala color.....

Recommended Posts

Last year I was fishing with a friend who brought out a rapala taildancer that was spot on to a redtail chub. I've been looking all over and can't find it. Anyone know this color or if its been discontinued? That crank was on fire and I'm hoping to get my hands on a few.

Not quite so simple if you're looking for the action of the DHJ vs. the standard, not necessarily the depth. Wish they would make the DHJ's with the same chrome type finishes that they make in the standards (especially the clown and tennesee shad colors).

They don't make tennesee shad in the DHJ anymore, so if you want a tennesee shad for fishing deeper than 8ft, your going to have to settle for the regular HJ + some method of getting it down there (in line weights, bottom bouncers, 3 ways, lead, etc). If that doesn't satisfy you and you're really intent on the action of the DHJ, buy some paint and do some customizations of a DHJ in a different pattern wink

I definitely agree tho, of all the HJs I own, I've caught the most eyes on tennesee shad, clown, and the silver/blue. That chrome pattern works great and they only really have one pattern (Silver) in the DHJs that has any silver on it. Maybe someone should get in contact with some Rapala reps.

haha nice Steve, that is good to know! Nothing like having a stock pile of your favorite [discontinued] crank... You guys have got me thinking, is the DHJ action that much better than the plain old HJ action? I've had some of my best results pulling cranks on the standard HJ, but then again, it was in less than 8', up shallow after dark. I have always just relied on lead to get the stand HJ deeper if need be. I might need to go buy a few of the DHJs now so add to my severe growing crankbait obsession after hearing more and more about the DHJs.

I am curious, what did the guys at Rapala say when you contacted them? I would have to feel that we (Minnesotans) are in the minority when it comes to % of sales for Rapala. I'd have to think the majority of their sales come from down south and they are more prone to cater to their needs/wants/preferences of lure patterns and not ours

Miller it depends on the day as with anything else. Some days them "Hot action" lures like Reefrunners are hot and other days it can be HJ's and Bomber Long A's. It seems that I can always get a few on the Deep HJ's though.

Rapala said they may bring them back but they do that on purpose I think. Discontinue Hot colors only to bring them back as a limited edition or something and jack up the prices. wink

Very hard to find indeed. I have a handful of them. We actually crushed them in a river tourney on that particular color about 10 years ago. I would have to look back at my journal but I believe we were running them in conjunction with deep little rippers of similar colors. Guess I will have to do some digging cause it is bugging me now.
