Cool fishing story

Musky hunter 82

Recommended Posts

My brother was going surfing, and asked the captain if he could troll until they got to their surfing spot, he agreed, so my brother grabed his medium heavy musky rod, with a baitcaster loaded with 25# power pro braid. He tossed out a popper with a rubber skirt and sat back to enjoy the day. After about 10 mins of trolling he had something hit his lure, it missed 3 times before he hooked into it. He faught it for 45 mins or so and eventiually landed it, I'll let the picuters speak for them selves, but he was told that it wieghed in around 300 pounds and was roughly 8' long.full-23988-9043-sailfishi.jpg

Wow... he caught the new world record whistle !!!

The IGFA world records currently stand at 141 lbs. for Atlantic sailfish (caught by Alfredo de Sousa Neves off Luanda, Angola in 1994) & 221 pounds for the Pacific variety (caught in 1947 by C.W. Stewart off Santa Cruz Is., Ecuador) respectively wink.

Yep, I got to battle against a sailfish, but I did know they really aren't all that heavy. Still, a 60lber on 10-15 seas is quite a challenge. I was having trouble standing at times before I even grabbed a rod. Not to mention the fight belt they gave me didn't fit, I was doing better before they gave me it.

That is a NICE big sailfish but of course it does not weigh anywhere near 300lbs. But hey!.....that's okay, it is STILL a BIG sailfish and a GREAT story for your pal to tell for a long time.
