I really really want to get better at deep diving cranks! I struggle so much with those and I know they can be the go to lure at times. I could work on drop shottin too. I'm alright drop shottin for smallies but not largemouth.

Flippin and Pitchin. I got a new rod/reel combo specifically for this so hopefully I can put a few fish in the boat and gain some confidence in it.

I also want to get better at catching smallies on Mille Lacs when they're not up on the shallow rocks.

Is Mille Lacs a zoo on bass opener?

Want to get better at skipping docks. I don't do it often enough to be consistant.

On a side note, my main fishing buddy is moving out of state at end of June. It would be fun to get out fishing with some new people.

Hiya -

I'm starting to get pretty stoked too. Won't be fishing opener (family obligations) but I just scheduled time off in mid-June. A week at the cabin with just me and the dog. It's on the work calendar as "FMAO" - Fish My "you-know-what" Off.

As far as what I'm going to work on - most years I have a specific technique or lure category I plan to experiment with. I don't this year. Nothing new really caught my curiosity enough to make me get serious about it. So what I want to work on this year is sticking with fishing faster and being more patient with the search process. I like fishing slower baits like jigs and jigworms, so sometimes I turn to them just because I like it. I'm also going to relearn a couple of my favorite lakes. Been in kind of a rut there doing the same things because I know it works, so going to force myself to not fish some of my favorite spots and go find fish other places. So the theme for me this year is I guess is "murder your darlings" and stop doing what you always did. Should be fun...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

Jalberg,

Where in the metro are you? I'm often looking for someone to hop in the boat with me or just get out with them just so I'm not fishing alone. I fish mostly West and South metro. Shoot me an email if you're interested and to talk other details I suppose. acarrell at gmail dot com

How about this question...

"What are you going to try to be better this year?"

I want to get away from topwater lures and fishing shallow weeds/docks - old habits die hard I guess - and instead I want to fish deeper structure with slower presenations, like jigging, jig-worming, carolina-riggging, etc. Looking for consistent action with 4 and 5 lb-ers!

Also I want to get more lake action on my fly rod. Can't wait for Memorial day wknd!!!
