I see GM is advertising this reel for $79.99 - $50.00 off. It looks like they have redeisigned the reel - new ones are magnesium and $149.99. Has anyone used the older version? Do you like it?

I have many shimano stradics and symetres, they have been great reels but it the last few years my dad and I have been buying pflueger. We have both the presidents and supremes. They are awesome reels!! For the money I think they are tough to beat imo. Just had a few buddies buy them as well after trying ours.

I think they just changed the handle and the color. I have the older orange one and it is the lightweight magnesium. Haven't owned it long enough to give you an idea of durability but so far I really like the reel.

i have one i use mainly for 'eyes. i love it so far! it's very smooth when reeling in line. the drag is one of the best systems i've ever experienced. it's also very light weight, but durable. i'm like the other guy though...i've only had it a season...so far so good. i paid $129 for it, and it's the gold one. i have it on a St. Croix premier rod, and don't have any complaints.

i have been taking my reels to a professional rod and reel shop for years, and he gave me a heads up this year. most of the newer reels are not lubricated properly at the factory. they also use a die on the gears to indicated where they go inside. that die breaks down and binds up the reel...i would purchase the new Supreme and take it immediatley to a pro.

good luck!

I have a 6'6 shimano crucial rod that just got replaced under warranty. So I am looking at this as a brand new rod that needs a brand new reel:) I was at Gander last night and the only size Supreme XT they had left was the small 25. All of my other pfluegers for walleye fishing are size 30 so i'm hesitant to go with the smaller reel. I use the 25 on my panfish rod but will I be happy with it for walleye and particularly on this rod? Should I try to track down a Gander with a size 30? Thanks

Muskie

Haven't used the supreme model but I paired a Fenwick elite tech with a Pflueger President and I was very impressed with it on my trip to Canada this year. Handled walleyes and some large pike with ease. Impressive drag system. How it holds up in the long run is the true test for me though.
