Towing

Recommended Posts

I Pulled my 30' travel trailer with my 01 tahoe in d with tow/haul, unless it kicked out often, then I brought it down to 3. I would think a burb would be fine with a boat in tow haul..... Thats why the button is there! But like I said, if it wants to kick out of od often, thats when I'd bring it down.

would be best if you pulled it in 3rd, unless your going 70 plus and your rolling in some very flat ground IE: Nebraska

I don't know why you would tow in 3rd unless needed. Chevy put the tow/haul button in there for a reason. Unless the truck IS shifting out of top gear, then there is no reason to waste the gas of towing in 3rd.

The tow/haul mode changes the shift points in the lower gears. It doesn't effect high gear or OD. You have to drive "with your foot" and not cruise control to keep the tranny from shifting up and down. I pulled an 18 foot Alumacraft with a burbon and if it has the 3:73 rear end you really won't notice much difference with the gas mileage. If it has the 3:42 you can expect some shifting but I wouldn't worry about it. If I remember correctly that vehicle has about a 42 gallon gas tank which is great until it's time to fill it up!! 26 or 42 gallons they all take fuel and you have to stop when it says "E"

Hammer Down!!!

If it is doing alot of shifting when its in od with the tow/haul button pushed in drop it into 3.

The engine will take the stress the transmission won't. A little extra gas is way cheaper than shortening the life of your transmission.
