oh, and enough with the atta boy's. really, I like to think anybody here would have done the same thing and it is really not a big deal to me.

I didn't post for pats on the back, more to root this guy out so he would do the right thing.

good job for doing this and not wanting an atta boy wink

No atta boy, but thanks for the example. Let's all make it a point to pick it up even if it's not yours. Years ago when a lot of us smoked cigs, I would see people flicking their butts here there and anywhere. It was like it was just an accepted practice. I beeatch when I see it now.

Weather you like it or not: Atta boy!

As for the smoking thing, I still smoke(trying to quit) and a bunch of my buddies also smoke. They all try to throw their butts on the ice or in the lake and I always explain to them that the filter will not biodegrade, and if a fish eats it it will kill the fish.

So, to all smokers out there, flick the cherry off and put the butts in your pocket to be disposed of in the trash on shore. Smoke your brains out, LETS JUST NOT THROW THE BUTTS IN OUR LAKES AND RIVERS.

Some years back I was talking with a diver at Mille Lacs and the two things he noticed the most regarding garbage on the bottom of the lake were beer/pop cans and cigarette butts, he said it looked like an ashtray in certain areas (Reefs, Gravel and Mud Flats). As a smoker I have been guilty of flicking the smokes, but after talking with this guy and seeing actual pictures I stopped that years ago. It was disgusting.

If we all do our part out there it will make a difference... Just as this gentleman did with the cr@p on the ice.

Use a can as an ashtray, either beer or soda. And REQUIRE those that are with you to do the same. Either clean it out for recycling or not. Wouldn't we rather have a can full of butts going into the garbage?; or a ton of butts directly on the ice/water and then only the can itself can be recycled? Common sense. Of course if you are an uber-recycler, then cudo's to you for emptying out the butts and recycling the can regardless (an atta boy +1).

Jigglestick,

No "atta boy" from me although I feel comfortable calling you a fellow sportsman. I don't know where people get off leaving all of their trash. "trash meaning anything that you leave that is not indigineous to the area you are recreating in" It is sad but we should all leave the areas we recreate in better shape than we found them. Only true "sportsman / conservationists" will make the extra effort to keep things as pristine as they should be. I do know that the DNR is going to get more and more stringent on trash left from ice fishing...more regulation...that's all we need, why can't people just take care of their own [PoorWordUsage]. I.e.: If you brought it with you take it home, if you see something that doesn't belong be responsible and clean it up. "Be an ethical sportsman"!

Hey good job. Taking pride in ourselves and keeping an eye on each other is what makes for accountability. This guy was not accountable for his own actions and good for you for remembering who he was. Now hopefully the CO makes him accountable.

Well said and I could not agree more!

I believe the point here being - clean up YOUR mess. I don't want to, but will if YOU are too lazy.

This year alone - I'm not sure how many 1# propane tanks, [PoorWordUsage] bags, wood, cans, etc. and bags of garbage I cleaned off the ice left by others.

Summer and winter I am constantly trying to make sure my areas are clean. If we all pitch in there will be less to pick up.

How about just fine the SLOBS heavily and make them also do mandatory clean up to boot. No write a check and go home, they must do clean up to meet the fine..no outs or pass's.

Then apply the funds accumulated for hands on educational programs that teach ecology, sportsmanship, and stewardship of our lakes and streams to youth and whomever else would wish to participate. Take the SLOBS money and time, and try to instill a better philosophy for the next generation.

Let the problem pay it forward for the solution for a change.

I took a walk to see one of the streams in Black Dog Park that the DNR lists as a trout stream. Apparently, there is not currently a population of trout residing there, but I was curious to see what it looked like.

I picked up trash as I walked. After following the little stream at least 50 yards, I found a 5 gallon pail of some alkyd sealer that had been partly used and conveniently left to fill the rest of the way with rain water at the bank of a 2 ft wide trout stream. I'm sure it must have come off a vehicle passing by on the freeway up the hill.

I carried this full 5 gallon pail all the way back to the road and figured I may know the reason there haven't been trout in this stream recently.

I like Ed's idea. This waste should've been removed by one of the people who is guilty of contributing to the problem.

I'll keep on picking up. I hope we all do.

Thanks for picking it up, and like others said... You're a true sportsman.

This being my first year ice fishing, I was completely appauled at all the garbage that gets left on the ice. I guess for me, it was "Out of sight, out of mind" before this year. My last 5 or so trips, I'd bring out a garbage bag just to pick up other peoples cr@p on my walk out and back in. I bet I could have filled a 5 gallon bucket with all the darn cigarette butts I found out there. It would be nice to see more people take the initiative that you have... and leave these lakes/streams/rivers in better shape than what you found them.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
