Sinker Weights

I know there's probably a lot of different factors involved, but what size weight do you typically use when fishing for flatheads?

Most common for me is 4oz, followed by 5oz and then 3 oz. This is from a boat on the MN river.

If I was to go out and buy a ton of sinkers and only had one choice, it would be 4oz.

I agree with Dtro, the 4oz are my mainstay for sinkers and I do use a few 5ozers if the current is fast in a high river.

I wonder how well a larger jig would work...anybody see a lead head jig that weighs more than an ounce?

I bought a mold for a 1.5 oz football jig with a weed guard- 6/0 long shank hooks for dropping in and around heavy cover. And to 'pitch' jigs to creek mouths. With the high water we had last year I didn't have much of a chance to pound the pre spawn cover so I didn't use them as much as I had planned but will eventually. I did catch about a 15 lber that sucked the jig/bully combo off of the bottom at rest.

I use 6 oz pyramids most of the time, but even with them the bigger bullheads would pick them up and swim me right into a snag.

My most common weights are 3-6 oz Bank sinkers. I do have a few no rolls left that i use in lower current situations.

I use 5oz bank the majority of the time with big bullies or suckers.

typically i make it through the season using 4-5oz no rolls or banks. certain areas require larger weights however.

I fish from shore and I use 6 oz no-rolls until the the river level drops. Usually April/May I am using 6 oz, June/July 5 oz, and August/September 3 or 4 oz. That is obviously under typical water levels, unlike last year where I had 6 oz no-rolls on the whole season.
