Black_Bay
Anyone have a good recipe? My wife makes a pretty good version but it's nice to try something new.
Stringerless!
I use a couple pounds of cooked ground beef on the bottom of a cake pan.Couple cans of corn. Carrots and peas. Cover with 3 cans or more of cream of mushroom soup and then cover the whole works with mashed potatoes. Make sure to seal all edges like frosting on a cake. Getting hungry typing !!! PartyWhine
Mrs PW does it this way : it's awesomePreheat oven to 250Put carrots, onion and LAMB stew meat (NOT shepards pie without lamb)into a casserole.Cover with beef broth, add 3 teaspoons corn starch. stirBake at 250 for 3 hrs. (or more !)remove and set the oven to 450Now ... very important.Remove most of the fluid before topping with mashers.Save it and thicken for gravy of course. But remove it.Leave just enough to keep the meat moist. Now top with mashersbake at 450 for 30 minutes or until taters are golden.Allow to cool .... it will be extremely hot. Mrs PW insists that if I'm going to attach her name to a reciepe I'd better get it right. Since I happen to know she just picked up 5 lbs of lamb, I'd like to quickly make the following corrections. In Re baking temps, they are 275 and 400. Not 250 and 450. Also ... add celery. Salt and pepper to taste. And finally, the same reciepe with beef is called Cottage pie. Thank you Dear

tacklejunkie
My wife makes a decent one but were does one get lamb?Either I'm shopping at the wrong stores or it's a specialty meat because I never see it in the Supermarket. Unless I'm blind or not searching the right areas
reinhard1
lamb is expenive. most sell them in cryovac containers [much like food saver appearance]. cubs, rainbows, county markets all have lamb, just not a big display. but they are all pre-packaged as far as i can see. good luck. PartyWhine
We get our lamb directly from a nearby hobby farmer who keeps a flock.Bring our herding dogs out about once a month to help with the chores.Get the lamb for 2 bucks a pound.Nice deal for everybody.I've got a standing order to take all the stew meat.
