tax prep recommendations

shnelson

Question

Not sure how kosher this is going to be on the site, but I'm looking for recommendations on a tax preparer in the north metro area. Been using turbo tax the past few years, but just got married last year and tangled up in a small business on top of everything else - i'd like a trained set of eyes to do the work for me this year.

Anyone had good experiences with someone local? I don't want to resort to the walmart kiosk!

It might be against form policy to call out an actual name, please PM or email nelshawn (at) gmail.com if you could!

Thanks for all the great recommendations everyone! Now.. if I can just find one that isn't booked up through march, kinda shot myself in the foot waiting for my W2s to show up before scheduling an appointment!

For that person that I sent you, I dont even make an appt. I just drop off all of my paperwork and normally they call me in about a week with some questions. I tell them the answers and they have them ready in a day or two after that. I still haven't gotten all of my paperwork yet.

My wife and I use Kordiac in Columbia Heights. He's also the County Commissioner (?). He's good and a nice guy. Though I've never done my own taxes since the days of the EZ, I'm going to dig out last years forms and try and do it myself this year. I think.

A bit off your direct topic but I wanted to get the word out. Two of my kids and I have found massive problems with TaxSlayer when they get to the state returns. My son in NY result was a huge hit for state taxes. When I redid mine on Turbotax there was a $7000 swing from what TaxSlayer gave me as a result. We've used the product before and were satisfied but not this year.

Thanks again everyone, missed your PM Powerstroke since I didn't have email notifications turned on.. also was under the assumption that PM's didnt work here but I guess that was wrong!

I ended up giving turbotax a run again, I don't know why I thought it was going to be so complicated with a marital status change but it really wasn't. I'm sure a tax pro could have scored me a few more hidden deductions, but overall the return amount is right where I expected it to be. K-1 forms were handled by an accountant so that was no big deal either.

Now, why in the @!#$%( do I have to wait till the 14th for the IRS to even think about processing my return? That's a bunch of bull-honkey!

Normally I have my refund already by the 14th, but it should still be by the 25th. I already submitted the efile through Turbo Tax and it will go to the feds automatically as soon as they'll accept it on the 14th.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
