Fever brings up some great points ! Don't forget about suntan lotion slicks coming off the beaches !! Where is the public outcry ??Show me in the regs where WD-40 is illegal to have in your possesion while fishing. I really don't think we gotta start worrying about oil slicks on the lake from WD-40.

This really works. (PH) Preperation H. I know, ha ha, but it does have fish oils in it. And it does work. I always have a tube in my tackle boxes, and my butt is fine. BTW put it on a leech sucker in the summer and they FREAK OUT. Gives them awesome action. Good luck.

Ya but you'd better start out with the most swollen up JUMBO leeches you can find because a few minutes after you slather 'em down with PH, they'll be reduced to the appearance of panfish leeches. crazy

i was merely explaining that it really is illegal to use wd-40 in minnesota i have no idea about north dakota. I have a boat, use a gas-sugur, and was merely trying to let everyone know that the DNR doesnt allow you to use WD-40 to spray your lures, just trust me it is not in your best intrest to get cuaght spraying it on ur lures as it leaves a nice gassy glosh while shooting down the hole on your lure.

good luck fishing guys

i wasnt saying using it properly on your house is illegal bud. fishing with it is going to get u a ticket. but dont beleive me it wont hinder anyday of my fishing season. I wouldnt risk losing my fishing license for much of anything cuz it is a privelege to fish not a right.

Yes, you did. You said having it in your possession which means, having it in your house/truck/pocket is illegal.

Now that we're all on the same page, who's on their way to get some Prep H before heading out this weekend? grin

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the water. If you have to use WD40 and butt hole lubricants to catch fish, you have become a pretty desperate angler already. Instead of hiding your stash from the DNR, confess and seek treatment.

I keep a can of WD in my boats tool box, does that mean I am breaking the law? Oh man, I'll never survive in prison. I'll have to shoot my way out if the law comes.

I wonder, do the words "really stupid" apply here? lolololol

Like I said I dont really use attratants or sents unless its all ready on the plastics im using. I was just wondering if it really worked or not because someone told me about it the other day and found it hard to belive. From what I am getting it might be illegal to use for that and it might not do anything. When I read the first couple of post I was wondering what I had started and it has been entertaining and some what educational. LOL with the PH.

Well I have tried it years ago I do not think that it helped. I always have a can in the fish house, Boat, Toolbox. I didn't think it was unlawfull to spray a little on your hook. so I did a little checking (Online reg's) It didnt take long.

General reg' page.

The use of Explosives,Firearms,Chemicals,(Not includeing fish scents.)Spring devices, or Electricity, For takeing fish is unlawful.

So is WD40 a chemical or not I have a MSDS sheet at work that says it is. so I will only use it on rusted parts.

Ok, I'll join the fray. Fishing years ago on Mille Lacs, bobber fishing with leeches and not catching much. Someone in the boat says he's heard that WD-40 is a fish attractant. He hoses his leech down, just happened to have a can in the boat. Shortly, he catches a walleye. Repeat and same result. Now all are hosing their leeches down with WD-40 and all are catching walleyes. Coincidence...

I have read in a few fishing books that WD-40 was not an attractant but rather a mask. The Molecues of WD-40 are to big to penatrate the sent glands of fish so they wood react on sight of motion rather than sent. Just a theory I read.

I have heard that too. Something about fish oils. Thank god I have no need to have that stuff on hand but I have heard of people using it with success. You really got to wonder HOW they figured out that it works. Or maybe you don't want to know LMAO.

Back in the day (like 15 years ago) I saw someone using WD40 on worms and they did outfish me for Perch with it. I really don't like the idea of introducing that kind of stuff to the lake but I got to think that in the amount that you would be using its pretty much harmless. Especially considering all the other junk that gets into the lake (i.e. road salt off the trucks, boat exhaust, oil from lower units, ect, ect). Still, it would be pretty easy to just get a bucket of gulp alive and dip whatever bait your using into the bucket of stuff. Then you don't have to worry about dumping more junk into the lake than you need too and your using something that is made to catch fish.

I use canned corn to catch sunfish. Green Giant brand outfishes Butter Kernal two to one. Peas don't work very well. I also pee on my hands to keep them from chapping when out on the ice. I have not tried that for chapped lips though.

It's not B.S. I'm not sure about the current formulation of WD-40 but at one time it contained a chemical called hydrazine. Hydrazine works as an antioxidant so it reduces rust when applied to metal. Fish can also detect it in very weak solutions. Crews collecting salmon eggs in a lake such as Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota actually used to use a hydrogen based formula to attract salmon to spawning ladders. The salmon would follow the hydrazine trail and eventually focus in on the ladders. This was in the 80's and I'm not sure if the procedure is still the same or not. A bait with WD-40 on it works in the same manner. I tried it on dead bait while fishing for northerns in the 80s and it certainly never distracted the northerns, sometimes improving the catch rate alot depending upon the day. It's been almost 25 years since I've used it because I didn't like putting the other chemicals in WD-40 into the water but I'm guessing an outboard motor is worse.
