picksbigwagon
I am gonna need brats for the big game next sunday and I simply refuse to eat johnsonville brats. What would be my other options?
reinhard1
there is no decent fresh sausage of any type commercialy made in my opinion. if you want the best go to kramarczuk's in mpls. google them up for info. they have a variety of great fresh and smoked sausage. good luck. DTro
I haven't found a meat product I didn't like at Pekarnas in Jordan. Good Stuff
Getanet
If you're looking for something close and easy, I've found the brats Byerly's and/or Lunds carry in their butcher area to be excellent. In fact, whenever I'm looking for brats I check to see if the grocery store I'm in makes their own brats. If they do, they're always better than Johnsonville and since you can buy them individually you often save money because you can buy exactly how many you need - not a 5 or 11 pack of Johnsonvilles. SkunkedAgain
...and a step up from Johnsonville would be Usinger brats, made old-world style in Milwaukee. You can typically find a few varieties at either Rainbow or Cub

I know this does not help because of location but the County Market in Hudson has their own smoke shop and makes their own brats and sausages. Just picked up some awesome fresh Jalapeno and cheddar brats, the best!, and wild rice filled brats and their cajun brats are great also, then they have Andouille and Chorizo sausage to choose from. The summer sausage mmmm! Man I am lucky to have a place like this only 15 minutes away. Cant wait till summer for even a bigger variety. Mid-Lake Rock
Mackenthun's in St. Boni. If you go, don't forget a log of garlic summer sausage.
picksbigwagon
I have heard of Pekarnas and a place in belle plain as well. we'll have to see where my truck goes. I am heading to Iowa for some ice fishing this weekend and then stopping on my way back, not sure if I can get to Jordan or Belle Plain, but we will see......I might just swing through my home town and pick some up as well, the grocery store there does a pretty mean brat, even after Quillin's in La Crosse bought them out. DeBo101
A&M processing in hamburg has some darn good brats. I get them here in winsted from the supervalu. Maybe available at other grocery stores too. Maybe a little far west but we sure enjoy them. Really like the ones with bongard's cheddar but the rice ones aren't too bad either.
