Carpet cleaning machines

hockeybc69

Question

The wife told me to go online and find a carpet cleaner. So rather than spend the night google searching, I was hoping someone here might have some experience.

Anyone out there in the flooring biz or have experience with something that works?

It would be for pet stains and the occasional kids spills.

Am I not looking at the right place, because I would have to mortgage my house to buy that stuff....

I thought the same thing when I looked at the site. You could just about get a life time of professional cleanings for the cost of those units!

I've used several of the "affordable" units from box stores and they all leave something to be desired. Many placed rent them and I've found that they work twice as good as any of the purchased units I've tried. I just spend the 20 or 30 bucks to rent one for a day.

I bought a Hoover SteamVac Spin Scrub TurboPower Carpet Cleaner at the wal store for about the cost of 3-4 rentals. I was very impressed with how well it worked. Made my old worn out dirty carpet look a 1000% better. It also does vinyl floors. Used it about a half dozen times with no issues. And no going to store and back for a rental.

Rental machine or professionally done.

One thing I have found though....

I've had some rental properties done by a professional company and there were some stains they just could not get out. My dad stopped by one of the places and used Rubbermaid brand carpet cleaner in the aerosol can on those spots and it took them right out. Even the pros couldn't get it and this $5 can did the trick.

The more HOT water, or water in general you put on your carpet is only going to break down the latex backing and you will eventually be left with an old rag for a rug. Carpet stores love those rug cleaners!

OK, so I have no idea whats right or wrong to get at this point.

Hot water will melt my carpet. Chemicals will cause mesothelioma. The [PoorWordUsage] stains that arent cleaned properly will chase off the hot neighbor ladies.

So what the heck do I do?

I dont want to rent a unit for spot treatments. I dont want to hire a professional cleaner for spot treatments either.

Maybe I should have clarified that I am not looking to do a full house carpet cleaning. I just want to know what works for spot treatments. My apologies for being too general.

OK. So whats recommended for more of a spot treating???

Call around to some carpet stores and ask for a product called Folex. It removes almost anything. Looks like water. Come in a spray bottle and sells for about $15-20. The big orange box store might even carry it.
