My ice fishing poem!

Ice Fishing

Drilling a hole in the thick clear ice,

The water comes up like I struck oil real nice.

It’s full of slush and water you see,

Now to the clean the black hole debris.

Walleye’s, crappies, sunfish to catch,

Hoping one of them will bite that matches the hatch.

Flasher is flashing fish below,

Not to bite, but only to show! grin

Hey Surface Tension, remember the Gong show?

They had three well rounded girls in wooden barrels singing:

Penut penut butter.

The two out side barrels would say:

Penut penut butter.

Then the real big barrel in the middle would say after:

Jelly Jelly!

It was a hoot! laugh

Here I sit staring at these walls.

To afraid to risk freezing my balls.

If I went to the fish house I'd surely get stuck.

I have nothing that will get me there not wheeler not truck.

Hopefully this bitter cold freezes that slush.

For then to the lake I shall surely rush.

My poetry stinks like old fish guts.

Reading this must be like a kick to the nuts.

But your here to kill time.

You must be bored reading this idiots ryme.

New posts on each thread; I try to ignore 'em

I should be fishing, not posting on forums

Spent my day in the garage, and whaddaya know?

I learned how to bag my QF Eskimo!

I picked through my waxies and removed all the mummies

Dinked with my Jiffy--I need "Augers for Dummies"

Sorted 1-pounders...they spent or they good?

When will I organize gear like I should?

Rehabbing gear made me long for the ice

The Vexilar is charged...what the heck, charge it twice?

Can't leave nothin' to chance when I finally get out

Will I jiggle for perch or catch my first pout?

Or a trout! No I won't, I'll catch 2 rock bass

After hours and hours of time on my...bucket

Not a big deal if the fish won't take jigs

If the fishin' is slow I'll prolly take swigs

Then I'll return and post like a fool

'Bout a wee little lake with a gigantic school

Of crappies and walleyes, and the lures they take

Then I'll post the coordinates to a winterkill lake

grin

since you guys need help here goes...

Summer has ended and the boats put away

Fall has all but gone and the and soon ice will stay

Head to Throne Brothers for the first time this year

Check out whats new with all the gadgets and gear

I bought a Jason Mitchell stick and a Venom bobber

So that I could catch that little bait Robber

Won’t take long with my new Strike master auger

Now to catch walleyes and a sauger

If I go spearing I’ll use my Fishtoys saw

It cuts the hole without a flaw

I’ve read the ice fishing forum on HSO

I’ve learned many things and in the Know

I put on my Artic Armor and grab my Humming bird

Its off the frozen lake and all I can say is word

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
    • I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage.  Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.   Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
