Best Generator For Wheel House?

We just bought an 8x14 Salem ice cabin. Awesome unit, but realized we need to get a generator to run all the fun stuff inside. The Honda's are just too expensive. Does anyone have any feedback on min power & other brands that might be more affordable? We were thinking of a 3000 watt min since we have a TV, coffee maker, forced air furnace, etc.

I have a honda 3000EU and 1000EU and could not recommend anything other than these after going through several others. They are pricier but personally I think they are worth it. Exteremely quiet, eco throttle, sip fuel and are very reliable. My 1000EU is over ten yers old now and still runs like it did day one.

I would think for your application that a 2000EU would work just fine. Delano Honda has them on sale for somewhere around $850.00 if I recall correctly.

Have fun with the new shack!

Speaking of HONDA generators, how often do you change the oil in them and what brand/type of oil do you use? Last time I used mine was last year on URL for charging batteries and since I'm making the annual trip up there Weds, I'd like to change oil. It has very few hours on it so maybe I don't need to change it.....................?

My honda 1000 works great - two tvs, stereo, dish, ceiling fan and lights. If you want to use microwvae or coffeemaker you will need 2000. Buddy has a yamaha 2000 and it is a nice generator. i think yamaha may be slightly cheaper and worth looking into. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra dough on a quality and quiet generator. My 1000 is 5 years old and it runs nonstop from friday night til sunday noon in all conditions. Reliable

You're probably fine on the oil but I would get it up to temp and then change it. I only use the Honda equipment oil which is recommended of course. 5/30 in winter and 10/30 for summer use. They hold very little oil so I just prefer to change them frequently since it only take about 5 minutes.

I agree with the Honda EU2000i..We have used this for about 5 years now and NEVER had an issue.. Its hooked up to the 6 gallon extended run fuel tank and i tell you its the cats a$$....Start the bad boy up on Friday afternoon and shut it down on Sunday afternoon, never have to run out and dump another gallon of gas in it..Runs lights, celing fan, TV and Satellite, microwave, coffee pot, etc..

Wow, thanks everyone. We've got a bunch of Honda fans. I'm leaning Honda after hearing about this. Thanks for the heads up on the Delano location. NEUT - where did you get the extended run tank? Is it just an adapter I could hook up to the portable gas tank I use for our merc 4 stroke?

Northern sells the kits for $99 or you can order a cap for the generator for $30 and use your boat tank (if i has a vent on it). The kits have a quick disconnect that has sealed ends on it so it doesn't get contaminated when disconnected.

The 2000 should be fine, I run 32" Tv, sat box, lights and plug in my diesel truck and there is still room to spare in regards to available power.

Nothing worse than sitting in the fish house and listening o a loud generator...the honda can barely be heard when trying to sleep at night.

I may be in the minority, but I run a Kipor 1000w. I bought it used and it seems as quite as a honda. Never had a problem with it. I only use it to make coffee and toast in the morning. I suggest getting a larger battery or 3. I run 3 Group 34 Interstate batteries and have more then enough power for a 3 day weekend with running the tv, surround sound, and lights. A longer trip I just bring with a 80amp charger and they are charged when the fish aren't biting.

I also am a Honda fan. For my aruxillary tank we bought the fittings as well as an extra cap (we used plastic but I believe they make some type of metal cap) drilled out a whole, tapped it, jb welded and screwed in the fitting. Have not had a problem in its 2nd winter.

Yamaha or Honda 2000 is good unless you plan to run roof AC. Then 3000 required.

Spend the extra 400.00 to goto 2000 vs. 1000. This is best ofr coffee microwave charging batteries. Also when we fish in a group of two wheel houses or more we share gas cost and plug all 3 or 4 houses into one Gen. 4 stroke is a MUST. Owned a coleman 1850 sport. Ran great but too loud and does not idle down when not under load. Therefore burning more gas too. Watch cabellas bargain gave each time you are there. people return these things all the time. The manager told me people buy them, take em on a trip and return them. I got a brand new yamaha 2000 last year for 500.00.!!!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
