Favorite cranks for 'eyes?

I add a split shot at times. But there are other ways too. If I need to add a little depth I tend to use keel sinkers or three ways if it's reel deep.

Don't mean to get away from the original topic, but.....I used to use those crankbait snaps but have since started using the rapala knot which I think works great! I will use a snap during the night once in a while yet since tieing a knot in the dark is a pain in the a**! Anyone else use that knot?

No i just use the snap but there is an easy way to tie the knot in the dark. No I don't mean to use a flashlight either. It would be too difficult to explain, you have to see it done. If you seen it done it's a piece of cake.

I see you are from the paynesville area. I fish the spicer area alot in the summer. We'll have to get together, have a couple cold ones and tie some knots!! LOL

I use the Rapala knot for all my ties. I just loop through, then another loop, then wrap line 5x, and back thru the loop again, moisten and tighten.

I've never lost a fish yet.

A great knot.

Can't wait for tomorrow morning! We'll be trolling the channel on Mtka for eyes!

Sounds Good!!

Hopefully we can get something worked out. Cats have been slow so far this year....at least the guys i have talked to havent had alot of luck yet. I have done real well with the walleyes though.

I like the #9 Natural Perch Rap. Weighted to run inches above the growing weed tops ( got to deal with some grass bass to be in the zone ). Or 1-2' off the bottom rocks or substrate. Nighttime walleyes in the weeds can be huge fun & the big girls seem to love this cover for ambush. They hit like a bass, fight like a 'eye & can be very challenging if they get back into the weedbed.

Blaze, I didn't touch on the other part of your post, the depth question. Sunday we were having trouble with numbers and size from the previous days spot, it was producing, but not as well. We tried out deeper and found many bigger fish suspended over 18-24 ft. of water. We pulled #4 Salmo Hornets and CD-7 Rapala's and caught our fish! A guy in the boat also put on a blue and white Spaulding and did quite well. In a week or two I'll be pulling and casting cranks above the new weeds. Less than 13 ft. is always best after dark for us. Good luck with it, I hope you do well!

If you think JR's cranks are good now, just wait until you see their new line of cranks...they are awesome! Deep divers, lipless rattle traps, and more... I've been throwing the lipless rattle traps and they are phenomenal! I don't have a picture of them yet but I'll post one once I get it. The colors of these cranks are very nice, and they are top-notch cranks. Very well designed and fine-tuned for consistant action. Keep an eye out for these bad boys...

Good Fishin,
Matt Johnson

Shorelunch, speed is crucial sometimes, and other days it isn't that bog of a deal it seems. I like to stay between 1.2 and 1.8 mph, but Sunday we caught our first fish going 2.2 mph and stayed with that speed througout the day and did quite well.

Rapala Husky Jerks and Smithwick Super Rouges.

I have a JR's bag for icefishing but I have never tried there cranks. I work a mile from there outlet store and I'm in there all the time. Maybe I'll pick up a few of those cranks.
