Sifty
My wish this year is that NASCAR can come up with a way to make things more enjoyable for there fan base. For the last few years I have begun to lose intrest as the season wears on.I think in part it has to do with the 48 team and the way they have run the table. I also think some of it has to do with all the single lane tracks and the lack of passing. There needs to be a bad boy in NASCAR and it has to be someone that has the respect of the drivers and not a up and commer. There has been some guys thaat look like they are going to stand up and take the part but then the next week they go back and all play nice again. The it was my fault answer is getting old if sombody go into you we can see it as fans and we want to know why and are you just going to take it or is there going to be some action at the next race.As a fan I have a hate/love relationship with the last ten races. It is so sickening to see the non-chasers tiptoe around the chasers if it is going to be that big of a deal have the non-chasers not race then see how many people show up to the events.NASCAR needs to get back to the old days of racing when the drivers werent so vanilla some of the interviews after the race seem to be the same thing they had to say the race before.Sifty
LMITOUT
Lot of good points there. When it comes to the Chase I also hate how everyone is watching out for the Chase drivers and doesn't want to hurt their chances and be the "bad guy". NASCAR needs to pull these 12 drivers out of the race in a sense that they have their own point system and it won't matter as much if guy #1 wrecks on lap 15 of the first chase race. Come up with a point system where the highest placing Chase driver gets 20 pts, 2nd highest placing driver gets 15, etc., etc. Some sort of point system that doesn't take a driver completely out of the championship because of one mistake by them or another non-chase driver. We all saw how exciting it was at Miami this year and it could be like that every year with a different point system during the Chase. Maybe another option is to make it like a playoff where you start off with the 12 drivers but then after six races the bottom six are eliminated and points are reset again. Another thing that I'd like to see is some changes to the car. Some of the top drivers have said that at certain tracks success is mostly car set-up and not related to the driver whatsoever. I've always thought that narrowing the width of the tires would help put the race back into the driver's hands. These IROC style cars are garbage and are doing more to ruin the sport than anything else. They just run around like they are on rails, and if they don't hit the set up they are essentially junk and even a good driver can't overcome the poor handling to keep up. Narrow the tires and let'm slide around a bit. This will also help control some of the high speeds they're always concerned about at some of the tracks. The other thing I hope they do is follow what the Nationwide series did with their new car. If you notice, the cars are all different from manufacturer to manufacturer. They aren't all identical like the CUP series with just a different sticker on the front and back to make it look like a Ford or a Chevy....they actually have different body lines and they look fantastic. The manufacturers agreed to develop their own car but in the end they all had to meet the same aerodynamic standard so they were competitively equal. This agreement allowed the cars to have the appearance of a Mustang or a Challenger that you see on the street (well, more than they did before anyway ). Having unique noses and rear sections really make it look like "stock car" racing again. The COT is garbage. Did I say that already?
gregg52
I dont think the vanilla comes from nascar as much as maybe the sponsers not really sure bout that as far as jimmie winning it is kinda sickening but on the other hand it was kinda cool to see him win 5 can he get 2 more and tie the 2 greatsin a much greater fashion i think nascar has to do something bout the tv rating according to an article on nascar.com and i dont know how they are going to do that maybe danica can help them out..lol
harvey lee
I enjoy watching a race team as well prepared as the 48. That is not very easy to do and takes a total team effort. If we want a bad boy back in town to stir the game up a bit Sifty, then we need another Dale Sr. I believe the Busch kid tries to be that but he has a long ways to grow up to be the man.If we could bring back Sr, the ratings would go through the roof.I would also like the see the championship decided like it was before the Chase but the Chase is growing on me. I can live with the Chase.Go Jimmy Johnson and set more records.
Juneau4
The TV ratings will probably continue to drop when the actual time of racing equals the commercial time. Last year in several races they'd show 7-8 laps of the race go to commercial and come back 7-8 laps later. I'd record some of the races and watch later minus the commercials- time was cut in half. tunrevir
I agree with you on the commercials and absolutely hated the split screen commercials while the race was going on, very distracting. I think that Nascar tried to make things interesting last year with "the have at it boys" but found out that drivers needed to be reigned in when Carl and Kesloski had a dust up. I think schrub has a chance to be the bad guy, Harvick could certainly become the bad guy if he reverts back to his earlier years. I'd love to see Martin turn to the dark side and beat and bang his way to a championship!Tunrevir~
harvey lee
One thing I question is how much the sponsors want their driver to be the bad guy?Earnhardt was an exception but I doubt NASCAR will ever see another driver like Sr.

I agree on the 48. Awesome team effort, but would like to see others win. Someone please step up and challenge them. The Busch kind of are the bad boys (at least Kyle lately, Kurt has mellowed), but they aren't the same because they aren't likable and have grating personalities. Good drivers, but they still have that elitist attitude.
gregg52
ya i agree on commericials but i think that goes to nascars greed they always have been rather greedie probably cant get as much as they would like so they are selling more at lower pricesthere seems to be lots of talk bout shorter races i personally would like to see them all at night time weather it be sat or sun ya there probably will not be another guy like the 3 tunrevir i would like to see mark win to but i think his nice guy nice driver has cost him a championship or to plus i dont think this crew chief swap will benifit him i think gordon is the winner here and might end up having a good yri predict he wins in the first 5 races..lol
harvey lee
It would cost the tracks alot of cash to run all night time races due to no lighting.Mark Martin would never be the bad boy as he has been a gentleman racer his whole carrer. It would be great for NASCAR to have another beat JJ and it almost happened last season but they choked and JJ won. gregg52
ya again greed on nascar's part but i dont think there are very many tracks without lights the road coarses and pocono come to mind and there talking bout cuttin one of poconon's races ya marks never going to be out there puttin the bumper to people havicks probably the closet thing to the 3 and could carry it off because he is in the old 3 and still has alot of his fans and maybe picked up a few more after last yrsomeone said if he returned to his past he really doesnt have to far to go..lol
largemarge
gentlemen...how come guys like bliss or nemechek are always last? it has to do with money!!! money gives the teams the ability to test in the wind tunnel, the testing ability at any or all tracks. it gives them personel on everything from gluing nuts to rims to computer equipment and all the bells and whistles throughout the whole week up to race day. not to mention the specs from years of winning. how can the small teams even compete? Money and support will move a team from finishing 30+ to consistent finishes in the top 10. the bad boys are making their way thorough the channels. keselowski is one of them. he is not liked by many, but as he continues to win and challenge, it seems he still doesn't have the total bad boy credentials. not many will rival the dale sr. method, but i keep hoping someone will start showing their strength as a "bad boy" and make this racing fun again.so, as the new year begins in Feb...i'm hoping for much competition and i am ok with the chase. they need to excel as all racers know the timing of the chase. cross your fingers for ricky charmicael!! gregg52
bliss and nemechek are good drivers and usally around the wrecks and yes it is partly because they are underfunded but they both have been around and had some good opernuitys and just didnt make it some guys are just flat out better drivers give both of them alot of credit for staying and enduring in something they obivusoulsy love to do not easy when it comes to the $$$$$$$$
Double D
Somebody mentioned above about losing interest as the season goes on. I will probably get railed on and I know it will never happen, but cutting down to 30 races would be fine with me. Be done about October 10, not November 15. No other sport goes for 9 months plus.DD
harvey lee
I would agree that the season wears on DD.
gregg52
it would be cool if they ran it from oct to april and had the daytonna as the finallybe tuff to race in kansas and chicago and few other places i guess..lol
Double D
Gregg, I posted somewhere on here years back it would be fun to schedule a 3rd Daytona race at the end of the year. Have the chase as sort of a playoff/qualifier for a winner take all/Super Bowl race.Just another rambling thought.DD
gregg52
ya something like that just shake it up alittle maybe have like a limation let 20 cars make the chase send the rest home start cutting the field to to 10 and finish in talledaga or daytona something different
harvey lee
My biggest NASCAR wish would be Mark Martin could win it all before he retires.

Cobra
Getting jacked up about Daytona! All the reservations are in place...With the new track surface I won't have to freeze my tail off for 2+ hours while they try to put a bubble gum patch on an old track. The new track will be faster and racing closer and even with a narrow track it could go 3 wide around the whole track!!! The bumps in the exit of Turn #2 which caused so many backstretch crashes won't be there anymore, nor will those in #3 and 4. Those bumps added character, but needed to go. They were running on the original base from 1959 and a resurface from I think it was 1978. This year's race will be verry fast. Don't be suprised if they tighten up the restrictor plate opening which really sucks and takes away throttle response, which also brings on crashes! Can't wait - I sit just to the left of the starting stand in the Sprint Tower - great seats! Go "Country Carl"!
gregg52
ya must be down to what 40-45 days ???gettin close wonder if speed is going to have testing on
harvey lee
If it tightens up the pack, less cars will finish the race almost for sure. Instead of the big one, it maybe 2 big ones.
