It can be as good or as bad as you make it. My wife loves to fish as long as I can keep her warm while she is on the ice. She has her own set a AA and a Otter cabin and the part she like the most is she can do what ever she wants while on the ice as far as jigging and setting up her line. It works out real good for her crazy

Please ignore her secret lure winkgrin

I agree with Jimalm... It can be as good or as bad as you want to make it. But on the other hand one bad thing is that you cannot smoke cigars or have a nice dip in but thats always worth it when you see her face light up when she gets one on the hook...

I got my wife out last year on my last trip out in the Metro. As long as she had a couple of magazines she was fine. She only caught a little sunnie but she thought that was great. Just as we were about to call it a day I looked outside and saw the flags for both of my tip ups were up! They were about a 100' apart. A nice pike was on the end of one of the lines and tangled up in the other. She couldn't beleive it and I think she really had some fun. My wife is one of the girliest girls out there and if I can get her to enjoy it any girl could. The only real issue was the bathroom thing. I have Yukon FT and I had to keep flipping it over for her to use the bucket (I was not in there then). still trying to find a solution to that.

Nice photo's both Lisa and Travler.

I have a friend and his girlfriend has come along on numerous trips for 3-4 days with me.

I will say this, she fishes as hard as any other person I know and can fish as well as any other guy.

She also makes food, never whines and is a real joy to have along.

I have another friend who's wife and comes along and she also is a joy to have with.

My wife also fishes with me in the boat and thanks to her i purchased a new LUND 3 years ago.

If there is a con to having a female along, I have no idea what that might be and heck at times, it's a bonus.

Seems the scenery is always better also.

I love fishing with my wife Wanda. Is is different than fishing with the guys? Sure it is but we really enjoy our time together. She really enjoys ice fishing much more than the boat but spends time doing both. She gets twitchy when I head up the Upper Red without her as it's her favorite lake to fish. Here's a few pics of her and her fish. Notice the smile on her face.

She's adjusted to spending long days on the ice without complaint. Loves fishing out of our Otter fishouse pulled behind our snowmobiles. Has learned to use a flasher to find and trigger fish. Life is good. wink

Drawbacks?

Well she always looks good in pics...

She usually catches bigger fish...

It takes her a bit longer to get ready to go.

Wouldn't ever leave her behind if she wants to go.

My wife comes out with me a few times a year. We used to go up in middle of March to the sleeper on LOW but before I knew it all three dogs were comming along and one of them couldn't keep out of the lines.

Early ice we'd go out but every time the ice cracked she'd want to go back to shore.

The only fishing she really enjoys is trolling for pike at the cabin or charter fishing on LOW, Superior, or Michigan.

I cant even think of one con to fishing with my wife. Yes it is a little more work during the early ice because of the extra gear, But she always try to do her part and I would never consider leaving her home if she wants to come along. I really enjoy her company Thats why I also got her into bowhunting she is a lot of fun to have around she is always excited to catch a fish doesnt care if the fishing is slow or if they are small just likes being out there. Plus when you involve them they dont mind you having all the toys.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
