Known as the WALLEYE opener..

Why not go to Otter Tail Lake, known for its Walleye!!!

Actually peak conditions usually hit OTL around the 24th of May, but this year they are on pace to hit a little early. May be the best fishing opener ever!!!

Going back to fish a couple southern Mn haunts (Madison and Washington) that I haven't been back to since I graduated from college last May. Hope the spots I know well still hold eyes! Be safe ... best fishes!

Going to Upper Red, I know no walleys but those crappies are just as tasty now as they are in January. Plus maybe head down to Black Duck for a couple of eyes.

I'll be staying home again as usual.... LOTW my home lake that is! I'll be out with a bunch of city folks somewheres over on the eastside of the big pond, or maybe the lower end of the Rainy.

Good luck to all, have fun and be safe.

Northlander,

The island we stay on has a nice rock outcroping on it, you can kinda see it on the last picture. Anyway, the bite is real good there from aound 5:00pm to about half hour after sunset. After that, it's just bullheads.

In those pictures, we pretty much got skunked all day, and caught the pictured fish in about a three hour span as described above. Of course the year before that, it rained three days straight and we caught sh!t the whole weekend. Thus, is the bitter-sweet cycle of fishing openers.

I'll be working 12 hour shifts in our hospital engineering dept. One guy who doesn't even fish decided to take several days of vacation right then. I may sneak out to the Crow River for just a bit to keep in practice.
