I'm heading to WI on a mushroom 'scouting' mission this weekend. I'll post back what I find (if any).

I've heard reports that they are starting to come up as far north as Stillwater.

Good hunting!

My old rule of thumb for morel hunting is when the lilac bushes are in bloom the morels are ready. Has always worked for me. The Ol'Sneller

I just got back from northern Missouri on a turkey hunting excursion and got into them OK for me. I found about 20 or so and they were tasty. Based on that I would think we are a little bit away yet here in MN.

I just got back from central Iowa. The past four day a hunting were slow. I did manage to collect five pounds of fresh yellow morels for the table and a one gallon bag of dries mushrooms.
Man oh man Iowa sure has some nasty thorn bushes. :-(

Well, the lilacs are blooming in Bloomington, so are there any mushroom hunters that have tried the MN river valley bluffs? They are south facing and the MN valley refuge gives a lot of access. Please, let us know!

I used to have a gourmet mushroom company in the cities and did a lot of wild collection. I spent a ton of time in the Minnesota River area but never found a productive spot, maybe that's why I still don't have the company. Everything seems to be right for those guys except the mushrooms themselves.
There are a lot of wild Enoki and puff balls though which are great.

The season is in full swing in the Lacrosse area. My son and I picked about 10# in a couple of hours this afternoon. The rains and warm temps have them growing like crazy.
