Owning a Boat, Make Sense?

This is from The.Onion.com, spoof news/editorial web site, so you have to have a little sense of humor. I just got a laugh out of it:

Study: Owning A Boat Not Worth It
YONKERS, NY—According to a study published in the April issue of Boating Magazine, owning a boat is not even close to worth it.

"Our study proved conclusively that boat-ownership is primarily an inconvenience and a monetary black hole," editor Roger Bernbaum said. "We found little to no reason to keep that thing sitting in a shed all winter just so you can tow it to the lake and pay outrageous docking fees three weekends a year. It'd be much more cost-efficient to don a yachting cap and hang out at the dockhouse."

The May issue of Boating promises to explore the financial viability of seaside vacation homes.

Those of us who don't make a living with our boats, would probably agree that we don't get to use them as often as we would like, but think of how big the "Honey-do" list would get if we didn't have it. I also have to say that every time I have the kids out fishing and see the excitement when they catch one is worth ten times the money I'll ever spend on a boat. I can still here last summer's squeals of delight when they were on the tube, and I would come out of a tight turn. Throwing my money away? I think not.

I always take into account WHERE the article came from. This one from New York, the next one will be from the West coast, These people are living TOO CLOSE TOO THE EDGES. We need to be thankful for HIGH pressure systems that make the "COASTAL B.S." go up and over us. West Coast sucks in too much SALT AIR (corrodes their brain) and the East Coast is ODing on CO2. There are some that have been doing some inhaling over and above what is needed to survive in our area,(A.K.A. sticking their nose where it DOESN'T belong), We call them PETA!

Thats a pretty good one. How can you fish if you don't have a boat. It's not the same when your fishing from shore. Buying a boat was one of the best things I have done with my money.

Owning a boat is the best thing I have ever done in my whole life. Knowing that I can get out and fish anytime in any weather at any hour is the BEST! Although that was when I was single...now that I have a serious GF I hope she doesn't crimp my style too much... :o

Lets see! I don't smoke, don't drink to speak of, don't gamble either. Sounds like the boat is cheap to me. Can I have any fun!! Or maybe it's my why of getting some good therapy. Saving some money there to! Bobcat

It is a source of therapy. Every time I start the 200 Opti I smile from ear to ear! As a licensed investment person I see the financal side but hey, my financial advise "live for today", you may not be able to fish tomorrow.
