Where did this come from? Earlier in the week there was little to no mention to it. Geesh

The storm arriving tonight has the potential to be the biggest winter storm for much of Minnesota since the 1991 Halloween blizzard. Possible white-out conditions south and west of the Twin Cities, and wind chills of -20 to -35.

Looks like I will be plowing all weekend once again. Kind of weird that these storms seem to always land on the weekend!! cry

That works good for you. You can fish all week when the lakes are less busy and make some money on the weekend when the lakes are a zoo.

Mr. Douglas is nothing more than a weather terrorist, always predicts more snow than anyone else (but more importantly, always predicts more than we actually get). Predicts fiercer storms, more rain, anything to get attention. He several times has teased his news forecast with pending snow in the fall only to find out it was being forecast for either Bismarck or Des Moines.

the best weather forecast can be found at noaa.gov. Most reliable I've found in years. They are predicting 9-15 inches for the east metro. Bring it on.

I agree, I work for a company that collects weather data. This data along with satelite data, etc is then looked at by forcasters and then predictions are made. Good weather news folks use the same data and then normally add there local knowledge to the forcast. For the most part NOAA and NWS are the best sources. They sit and stare at data all day long and make the call. They normally have a lot of people looking over their shoulder calling them out if they do not agree. I primarily use NOAA and NWS for my weather checks.

The news folks work in a similar manner without the same amount of staff.

In fairness, while NOAA was forecasting 9-15", Douglas was forecasting 8-14" on the strib site.

All this snow will be good for us hand auger guys, but you "driving trucks on the ice" guys have every right to be disappointed. I might get to blow off work on Monday and spend the day filling a bucket because of this snow, but right now all I can think about is how sore I'll be from shoveling and snowblowing.

A foot of new snow near the cities. Give me a break. Looks like its time to trade in the 4 wheeler for a snowmobile. This will also slow down ice production a bit.

What snow???????? Hahahahahahahahahaha, I feel your pain gringringrin

On a more serious note, why don't you buy a set of tracks to bolt on your 4 wheeler and have a year around use vehicle?? About $4,000, and they do not get stuck in slush!! laugh

Well it has been a proper winter storm. I had to work today and the ride in to Wayzata from BC was interesting.

The ride home was even more fun. The freeway was actually pretty well clear (thanks to MNDOT working their a$$es off). However getting off at a exit to get to my house was a little more interesting. All the ramps were full of cars stuck in the snow. Some had trucks stuck. A little off roading and a lot of throttle got me to where I needed to go but I couldn't help decide that this is the worst that I have seen the metro roads. Gotta be thankful this didn't happen on a Monday (that would be a epic case of the Mondays for a lot of people). I have definitely driven in worse when I lived in Ely but in the MSP this takes the cake.

I am pretty concerned for the ice though. There wasn't a whole lot of ice the last time I was out and this sure don't help. I am hoping the wind will help but given that I can't see one of my cars in the driveway and there are drifts in the yard as tall as me, its not gonna go well for metro lakes. Oh well, I guess it gives me a reason to go up north where the snow didn't reach. Or its time to finally buy a sled.

All they do is report what is happening and not what is going to happen. They have millions of dollars of equipment, RADAR this, NEXTRAD that, specialized training, the greatest in education and degrees, and they still fail miserably at anything over 2 days.

When I last caught the "forecast" on Thursday they said that a snowstorm was "passing to the South on Sun and might clip the metro, and if so, a few inches of accumulation was possible."

It's like throwing darts blindfolded.

      I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...

      Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?

      I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

      Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.

      The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.

      It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.

      We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there,but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
