Maybe this topic has been done before????

With garage sale season coming up, I got to wondering:

What is the best fishing-related buy you've ever gotten at a garage sale?

I know that ALL of the fishing gear is gone every time I go to a garage sale. The fishing gear that I put on the sale I had last summer was the first stuff to go. Guess I should have charged more...

I'm a picker in the summer sale season. Fish during the week and hit garage/yard sales and auctions on weekends. Last summer I found a mint, in the box 70's Ambassadeur 5000D for 4 beans and sold it for 170. Found cheap and sold high many old Cardinal reels. Found numerous tackle boxes over the past few years that I've picked up for less than twenty dollars, some of these were full of old lures with great value, to the tune of hundreds of $$$$'s. Some folks don't realize the value certain old tackle has to collectors.....but I do!

Do you use the Color-C-Lector? Do you think it works? I tried mine out several times and never could see any difference in catch rate. I would use the color that was C-lected (lol) and my fishing buddies would use another color just to test it out. We never did have any different results one way or the other.

I got mine when they first came out and bought some of Rebel's matching color lures. There were a few time when I would tie on the color listed and my Dad would use whatever he felt was the "color" and I'd outfish him. Fluke? Who knows. Now I use it more for the Niece when she fishes with us. What the c-lector tells her to fish with she does. When she gets a fish it's even better yet. Ed

I talked to the inventor, a Professor from Oklahoma in the late 80's about the Color-C-Lector and told him it didn't work. His reply was just because it said use green and you caught fish on red, remember it only gives the best color not the only one. I guess in lay-mans terms it means they were worthless. Be glad your only out a buck!

May 6th and 7th in the Anoka (andover) area I will be putting a bunch of stuff on our garage sale!

If you are a Muskie Nut -- make the trip!!!! If you fish at all check it out!

Rods, reels, tackle boxes and a bunch of tackle. Anybody interested let me know -- I can get more specific.

Usually the guy across the street has a bunch of "GUY STUFF" on his sale too. Truck tires and rims, speakers, radios, mini-bikes and some times a used car.

Tis the season!

One of my sons got an old StrikeMaster auger (mid 70's) at an estate sale this winter for about 50 bucks. It had two extra auger shafts new in the boxes and was in never run condition. I took it to StrikeMaster and the company president gave me a new 3 horse Lazer ten inch with an extention in trade for it. My son was happy and the pres of StrikeMaster was overjoyed with the deal. Its now on StrikeMaster's wall with their historical augers.

Great to see some peoplee interested! I will get a list together and send it to all of you, plus post it here. (Freak's Garage Sale) under the Boats & Used Stuff for sale Forum. (2 down from this one)

It will be fun to put some names with faces, and talk fishing! The sale will be Thursday and Friday -- May 6 & 7 (9 to 5)-- BUT if you let me know, I will be ready on Wednesday night! I know how hard it can be to take time off.

Hope to see a bunch of you in May.
Steve

I got an early 90's model Jiffy Ice Auger for $10. The guy that sold it said that it wouldn't run, he had tried everything. Took it home and tried to start it. It would fire on the first pull and then die. I noticed a little gas dripping from the primer and when I checked it out I found a small crack. Put a little rubber cement on it and it now it runs like a champ. Oh yeah, it's a 10" auger too.
