Tikka T3 - like them or not?

Recommended Posts

Have been looking for a new rifle for my 16 year old son and have kind of settled on a Tikka T3 hunter, wood stock with stainless barrel in .270 I dont know anybody that has a tikka but it appears to be a pretty sweet gun and hits about the right price point for what I am willing to spend. Any reason to shy away from this gun? any thoughts on it will be appreciated.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 270 WSM. I absolutely LOVE the gun. Its very light, feels great in my hands, and is a tack-driver. The action is smooth as silk, and it has a great trigger. My dad shot mine a couple times the day after I got mine, and had one for himself a week later. His 742 hasn't left the safe since. That was 4 or 5 years ago and we still rave about them when hunting together. You won't regret it. The ONLY (and I mean only) thing I don't especially like about it is the safety. It seems kind of easy to bump off of safe, but is not a big deal as long as you are aware of it. When I'm walking with it I tend to keep one finger on it to hold it on safe.....same as I do with a shotgun. I honestly don't ever plan on buying another rifle again. This one should do everything I need it to. It does kick a little though. I threw a limbsaver recoil pad on it which helped a lot.

Another Tikka fan here. I have the T3 stainless in .30-06. I love it. It's light and accurate with a very good trigger. Another bonus is that it comes with ring mounts. There are two things that aren't really issues but I would like to see changed. There should be a bolt release like Sako has..so you could open the bolt with the safety on and I wish extra magazines weren't so pricey.

my brother shot his first elk with a Tikka T3 .270 at 250 yards a couple years ago. Cost him $90 extra because it went through the cow and killed a calf as well. It definately is a killer.

(PS the the colorado dnr comended him for calling it in)

I picked up a Tikka T3 in .30-06 last winter and it has performed very well for me to this point. The gun is light but doesn't hurt to shoot. The adjustable trigger is smooth and breaks cleanly. One of the best triggers I've ever used. It also shoots some very nice tight groups.

I like the gun so far.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
