Perham Mn area rutting activity?

Recommended Posts

First time in YEARS we havent been on our land for 3 weeks prior to rifle season.

Hoping to be surprised to find deer and sign. We have hunted it hard the past several years through mid to late October, only to be disappointed come rut time.

I have no clue if our presence was too much or what, but time to try something new.

So no clue at ALL if there is any sign. I am really anxious to get there and see whats maybe there to surprise us though. smile

I have been on two different pieces, one just south of Detroit Lakes and one just north of Frazee. The one near Farzee has a few smaller rubs/scrapes but the one by D.L. is tore up big time with scrapes/rubs. I can bow but not rifle by D.L. So hopefully I connect today/tommorrow.

I'm heading to Vergas this weekend for opener did speak with father-n-law says the does are running all over the place more then he's seen in years. BUT haven't seen one buck yet but I think the reason the does are moving is theres something 50 yards behind them chasing them. The chase faze has started around the Frazee/Vergas but we'll know for sure in two days. Good luck to you all and be safe!

It's happening, don't worry, just worry that these mild temps on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will mean sparse deer movement on there own, pressure will put a lot of them to bed down waiting for dark to get up and active again. They're already very nocturnal in my area, but we all know it takes 1 deer and a few seconds to turn your season into one of the best ! A woods near me had roughly 25 deer in, around it etc., farmer combined, disced, and then plowed it under now there are few if any there unless they are eating dirt and coming out well after dark. Lots of things change from about oct. 20th on, Perham area my t-cam on October 15th had a large buck making a groundscrape on camera which was way cool, after that 3 other bucks came and checked that scrape, talk about luck in Tcam placement. Just 2 trails intersect and thought why not put it there.

I'll also be in the Vergas area this weekend. Haven't had much time to check out the area too often as I bowhunt a different property. We usually have pretty good luck there though.

On my way back from lunch at about 1:40, I saw two does grazing a field about 5 miles east of Fergus Falls. Less than 100 yrds someone put up a stand. I usually see deer in that area in the evening, not much during mid-day.

I think no moon this weekend will help with more activity during the day, however like Musky Buck stated the mild temps might not help though.

Pressure and Temps, but it only takes a few seconds and the right deer and it's bingo, but man that can play your mind and time on your hands it's so easy to overanalyze everything you're up to, my uncles T-Shirt states..........1 Hot Doe ! That's the neatest feeling when you have a hot doe come out and then you wonder how many bucks will be chasing her, will it be 1 or more, and if 1 of them will be what your looking for. See how those girls get them guys in trouble, it's so real life like humans, just kidding.
