water/field hunt

Going on a guided hunt next weekend at lac qui parle. We have a choice of a field or water hunt. Any suggestions which to do would be appreciated, never been there.

you should have decent hunting either way. It all comes down to whether or not you want to shoot canadas with a chance of mallards, or mallards with a chance of divers.

Me personally, i like hunting in fields cause thats what im set up for and i dont have to wear waders and more. Its all about the person

I love hunting geese and big mallards in the corn, and I have had better luck in the fields!! Thats just me though.

having just been out there and doing both, i would vote for the field. we shot mallards in the field and geese. The mallards on the water were very educated, need some new birds down. the DNR count on saturday was 7500 geese and 10000 ducks. should be more geese after the NW wind this week.

I prefer field hunting. There doesn't seem to be as many people hunting ducks in fields so the birds are a lot more willing to commit. I've had woodies come into the decoys just like the mallards so you might get a mixed bag.

Fields are hard to get permission, you can always hunt water. Go for the field

I would say it is the other way around. Decent water is much harder to get permission for anywhere I have hunted. Either way, it is hard to beat a good field hunt.

Don't forget to wear blaze orange when going in and out of the field. Don't need to wear it while your in a blind though!
