Vikings Defense

There are enough Favre/Viking threads but I wanted to start something about the defense. What has happened since that Jets game? I know that there have been one or two defensive back injuries, but most teams get through that adequately. The D-line and linebackers couldn't have hit the wall this fast. Is this a team/chemistry/drama/Chilly issue or are there fundamental problems with this unit?

The defense is more responsible for our losses this year than our lack of offensive out-put.

No pressure...this team is on pace to get 16 sacks this year...16 sacks!! Last year they almost put up 50. Lot's of talk about benching Favre the past few weeks...well, I'd bench Allen for Robison in a heart-beat. Our front four should be embarrassed....teams are now playing them "man-up" or one-on-one and dominating them. The past few years, teams wouldn't even dream they could get away with that. The Pats did it AND they still had time to get Brady 5 and 7 step drops without a single problem.

Can't stop the run...2 maybe 3 more wins this year had the Vikes just been able to stop the opposition from running all over them in the 4th quarter.

How about a blitz package...does Antoine Winfield even play for the Vikes anymore...seems like he's been invisible all year long. I can't remember one big play he's made all year.

I expected a drop-off from Favre over last year...it was a sure bet...and I can live with that. But, our defense has a whole host of guys in their PRIME who are supposed to be pro-bowlers...at least they're being payed that way...who have underperformed tremendously ALL YEAR LONG.

Frazier needs to re-think his approach to getting pressure on the q-back...our front four can no longer "bring-it" all by themselves.

Jared Allen 1 sack though 7 games that says a lot there, maybe the team should have spent less time on figuring out how to get Brett to come back and play and more time practicing

HELLO, IT'S THE COACH.

There's no other excuse when a whole team falls apart, The defense and offense is in shambles. The coach is the biggest moron in the game today, lets challenge every single time when they are obvious they are the correct calls but lets never challenge a play thats obvious it's gonna be over turned.

Can't wait until this piestain is out of here, hopefully sooner then later, I'd rather not do good this season so he can definitely go away.

I have been one of Chili's few defenders over the past few years. My biggest point is despite his bland personality and offense, it's been tough to argue with his record, which had improved every year since taking over the job.

However, there are quite a few big names not coaching right now that would look great leading the Purple. Starting with Bill Cowher, there is also Jon Gruden & Brian Billick - all who have won a Super Bowl.

Our season is on life support at this point, so if it takes a 5-11 or 6-10 record to get a guy like Cowher here I'm all for it.

It just seemed odd that all of these great defensive players would all play poorly at the same time. Even Greenway has gotten quiet in the past couple of weeks. Nobody is performing and that makes me assume that it's a team/captain/coach issue.

1. It's not hard to improve from where Tice had us.

2. I could have coached the team to as good a record as Chilly....look at the talent that is abundant on both sides of the ball. Stop micro managing everythign and let your players play the game.

Missed tackles, over pursuits, lack of a "good" safety,

and no pass rush. Geeeeez how many times do we have to

watch the defense lower their heads to make an arm

tackle, and the guy rips off a long one. Stand the mother

up little man...

Talking coach talk. It started from the pre-season until the

regular season. The players never look sharp or motivated.

Heck, after last seasons follies. The blocking rigs would

have had New Orlean jerseys on them. And I would have had

the whole team watch the dang thing over again in hi-def....

Bring back some smash mouth people eaters!!!

The guy has all the cordinator things nailed, but that aint

coaching!!! The dude is not head coach material.

TJ is not Farve, but to let a player with his speed sit on the

bench idle through half the season shows more ineptness at the

leadership position. Get the kid involved and out on the field.

Kind of makes a guy wonder why Chilly came out of training camp with 11 D lineman and 3 cornerbacks? Good thinking there wonder body. You got guys like Asher Allen who couldn't tackle a fickin water boy, let alone a wide receiver. He had the chance to lock up the Pats receiver yesterday on the 3rd down catch and give the Vikes the ball back trailing by only 3. Instead he whiffs on the tackle and the receiver runs for 15. Same story every week, just a different defensive player. You guys are right....where are our LB's been? I don't know if I have heard Lieber's name called in about 4 games. When 69 cut his mullet off, he must have lost his heart with it as well. He is getting OWNED.
