Personality and Butch Furtman is kind of an oxymoron don't you think? Actually the worst is the host on Fishing University. He puts his foot on the Minn Kota, he fires up the Honda, boy if it wasn't for his diamond gusset jeans he probably wouldn't be out there. He is constantly pushing product - every sponsor is covered every minute of that show.

butch appeals to me because he is a regular guy. nothing fancy and is an excelent fisherman. plus he is out of duluth. now john gilespie is huggy and loud, but i like his show as well. i give him a lot of credit for fishing in conditions were most of the big names would not go. his show is every week regardless of conditions. jimmy houston is entertaining and i watch his show, but i like shows from the northern parts. larry zonka's alaskan show is one i tape, great filming of the beauty of that state and great fishing as well and smoky joe's reciepies. good luck.

Hiya -

Kind of funny who people like and don't like. I don't watch all that many fishing shows, but there are a few I do watch.

Butch Furtman is really low key, but I enjoy his show. Does a lot of multi-species stuff in MN and Canada that I like seeing. He's really a very, very nice guy in person too. I like Bob Jensen for the same reason.

I like the Lindners even though they're as promo-oriented as they come. Their production quality is really exceptional. Plus they do stuff in the Midwest.

I can watch Jon "Put 'Em in the Frabill!" Gillespe for about 15 seconds, and if you think his spastic behavior is an act for the camera, you're mistaken.

I can watch Bill Dance for less time than I can watch Gillespe, although Bill's as nice a guy as you'll ever meet.

I like the Bass Pros on Versus. High quality production work, and a lot of good education. Plus I like that it's not a one person show. Just wish they still had Rick Clunn's Art of Angling segment. That dude is the Confucius of bass fishing. Only problem I have is I can never understand a word Woo Daves says...

I work from home most of the time, so I have the Versus channel on during the day...

When Roland, Bill, and Hank come on, I turn to the Travel Channel and watch some Man V Food or whatever cool restaurant show is on. smile

I cant take Rolands constant product plugs, I am sick of seeing Bill fish the same water every show in perfect conditions every day, and I cant stand Hanks drawl. Not to mention his kids riding his coattails on the hunting show. Spoiled little brats. Do they even have jobs? LOL (OK, I am jealous of them. I said it) laugh

There are actually very few shows that capture my attention. I cant stand the harvest shot and the explantion how all the products they used to make it happen and they couldnt have done it without brand XYZ. I am quite certain that brand ABC would have killed that same elk just as effectively.....

Has anyone seen Gerlad swindels reality show? I'm just wondering if someone will ever do a reality show on life on the road with a tournament fisherman or something to that number?

I didn't know he had one but I just read an article in bassmaster about life on the road and G-man shared some interesting motel stories. I would definitely watch a show of that sort.

one thing about roland martin is he was more arrogant years ago. i think he is a much better person now in general in my opinion. i dont watch the ocean shows but i do his fresh water shows. sure he's proping up all the products but putting on a show is not cheap. i have always had to chuckle when dance is doing the same show in the same lake with the same conditions with the same size bass every time. that's why i key on folks like butch furtman. not flashy but down to earth. good luck.

Did you ever see Angler on Tour with Joe Thomas a few years back on Outdoor Channel?

I remember that show and liked it, Didn't last very long though!

That's because Joe stuck every one of his fish the day before the tournaments and then when the tournaments where over he had to explain that he missed the cut again and couldn't figure out why his fish weren't there. Loved the concept of that show though. Someone should do it again.

Yep, that about sums it up, imagine some of the Elite or FLW Pros that are good to solid to great doing a show like this!
