Nice deer. I'm going to say that your buck there is a bit higher than what your guessing at 165. If you are wondering Gross score (without any deductions by being non typical), I'd say 165 is on the low side. Real tough to say but I've seen deer (typical) that have scored real close to 165 and that one looks better. It's a ways off so its a tough call. Deer like that will drive you nuts... get you in the woods early, keep you there, and get you home late broken hearted.... Good luck to you and your friend.

Golly, I confess I don't know. Does not look like a particularly attractive head mount to me. But then I don't understand why everything in the hunting world of today must have a "score" to have any value. Used to be that if a guy could shoot a nice 4-point or 6-point buck he was floating on a cloud for a few days. Somehow things have gotten all twisted around in the hunting and fishing communities of today. Now, I confess I'm an old dude and probably a little fuddy-duddy, but there is something sick about all this "competition" in what is supposed to be a pleasant and relaxing time in the woods and waters.

Sad to say, many people are missing a lot

So....okay. There, I said it.

Very well said and I feel the same! But I don't think the poster was going that way as they just got a great video of a great buck and this would be a trophy in anyones eyes, trophy hunter or not.

I think 165 is a pretty solid guess. I think a lot of use score get a better idea of the general size of the buck. Most guys I know don't get too caught up on score but are more after a mature buck. We also don't pay much attention to the net score which is what a lot of the tv guys focus on. When I hear about someone shooting a 10 pointer you might automatically think big deer but I have seen plenty of 10's that are small and sometimes 2.5 year olds, but when someone tells me they shot a 10 that might score above 140 I know they got a really nice buck.

he's a shooter because of the drops. he looks good but dosen't score good. in the video i don't see any browtines which makes him a mainframe 6. if the drops are 8"-9" each, that would mean the mainframe would be 165-18= 147" as a 6 pointer. i'm thinkin his main frame is barely P&Y about 125" then add 18" of nontypical points and he ends up about 143". not the best video though.

I too am a hunter not all about the score of a buck but it brings a certain measure aspect to the size of a deer and helps give a person a better image of a 160 in. gross 10 pointer compared to a 125 in. gross 10 pointer.

I'm pretty sure from what my friend has said and from what you can see in the video is that he is a main frame 4 x 4 (including brow tines) with a drop tine coming off of each main beam.

To me a trophy buck is anything bigger then what my biggest deer is. I am always striving to shoot bigger bucks. I enjoy the outdoors and watching deer come by my stand but it gives me a better feeling to let a small 8pt walk by that I could have shot and wait for one of the more mature bigger bucks. If I want meat I simply shoot does.

To me, deer hunting is a fun a relaxing way to spend my time and always spurs great conversation with my family and friends!

I'd agree with nonteepical on this. 140 tops including the two drop tines.

I understand, and appreciate your point pulleye, but I also agree that the scoring system isn't necessarily there as a factor in a competition. It's simply used to categorize a deer - for lack of a better way to say it. Just like inches with fish.

We used to always use weight when judging fish. Now we use inches. I guess a 30-inch walleye sounds bigger than a 10 pounder. Not a competition - just a tool used to judge size. It's kind of fun to try and "fool the guesser".
