Kerplooch!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Hi all

Decided it might be a good idea to put the boat in the water this morning, before heading to Wisconsin tomorrow - being as its been in storage all since last fall - hadn't been out in it at all this summer
- but thats another story.

Went to a small local lake (Beaver Lk), got the motor fired up, new trolling motor worked - no interferance w/ the sonar - things were looking good that way. So I decided to fish for an hour or so.

Picked up the brand spanking new, never fished with graphite rod I
built last winter, along with its equally new Ambassaduer 4600 reel.
Tied a spinner bait on, and began to work some lily pads.

Had some back lashes, but got the brake dialed in, and began to work the pads. Then disaster struck - not exactly sure what I
did - but at minimum, I didn't have the grip I thought I did - cause KERPLOOCH!! There went my rod and reel, in the lake - never to be seen again.

I dropped the anchor immediately, and started to strip down - thinking
of going swimming - but looked at the water temp on the sonar (75F), and depth, and knowing my swimming skills - thought better of that.

Grabbed another rod, and tied on the largest Dare Devil I've got. Then I looked up - the wind had blown me way off - despite the
anchor. dump!

Motored back to the approximate area, tryed dragging the spoon to see if I could snag it - but nope - not to be. Worse, the rod was
roughly parallel to the weed line when it left my hand - so its a small target.

So....Free to good home, 6ft, 1pc graphite rod, fast action, med power, w/ Ambassadour 4600 reel, spooled w/ 12# test, spinner bait attached. Located in 6-7' water, on S shore in NW corner of Beaver Lake, located in Steele County. All you got to do is
find it.

GOd, in 6 to 7' of water I would have dove in and looked for it.

WOW, that would suck. What a bummer. Depending on the cost I may have dove in. But if you got blown off then it's never to be seen again. Rent an Aqau-vu and troll around the area. I don't know if it's worth it or not.

Sorry to hear that. Got to have that Kung my-mom-sees-this grip I guess - LOL.

Almost brings a tear to my eye!

A few weeks ago I was shorefishing off the Crow river. My friend placed his rod in the "Y" of a tree while he applied bug spray. As soon as he turned around the rod came shooting out of the tree and down the river. No kidding it cleared 10' of shoreline and a good 10' of water before it landed. The two of us that still had rods threw on spoons and somehow managed to catch it 10 minutes later, 50' downstream. Nothing was hooked, but I would have loved to seen what hit it. I still can't believe we caught that thing.

Let's hope good luck strikes and you get your pole and that fish!

Oh No!! UG not that pole you showed me. That thing was a great looking rod. Where'd you say this beaver lake is. I've got a friend who I'm sure would let us use his aqua view. We,re going to have to look for that thing.Besides it's another reason to go fishing

The one and the same rod. Made me sick to my stomach. Maybe I should have jumped in - but I'd rather have lost the rod than me.

If'n you can lay your hands on a Aqua View,
that would be super. I have a good idea of
where it is - within about 50-75 ft or less.

The lake is in Steele County - about 5 mi
W of Ellendale. I'll get in touch w/ you next week.

UG, Good luck! Darn shame to let a hand crafted piece of hardware like that go to waste. Put a post up if you find it. Would be a great ending to a great story.

Dear Uncle Grump,
If I remorsed about all of the stuff I've lost to "the deep", I'd be crying my whole life! Somewhere in Brainerd, there's a new trolling motor on the bottom of a lake, near Lonsdale, a new Coleman lantern, several flashlights scattered around Minnesota. I have retreived a few poles after the kids have dropped them overboard...but the all time showstopper is when I was ice fishing on Lake of the Woods and stopped fishing to have breakfast in another fish house. I'd had no bites so I figured that kind of securing my rig to a chair, I could leave it for ten minutes while I walked twenty feet away. Well, when I got back no pole! It was a nice one too!
Oh well. I've become more cautious as I get older.

I'm sorry to hear that Uncle Grump! This past March I learned not to leave a jig down while retying another rig. Boat drifted and ...rattle rattle sploosh! $150.00 worth of Gapen rod and Spider reel into The Mighty Missy. No way I was diving into deep dark cold stroong current, and snagging for it came up zero.
Couple months ago a carp pulled my daughter's rod out of her hands and I did go over the pier to grab it. Saved the ord, landed the fish, and didn't lose any toes to snappers!

I too fed the Water Gods this year. I don't know exactly how it happened but I had just started using a nice baitcasting setup my old roomie left me. I had just reeled in some weeds and thought I could just swing 'em off with a quick flip of the wrist...sploosh and I just calmly watched it sink into 15 feet of water thinking I could easily dreg it up. Thing was being a clear lake 15 ft was loaded with lots of weeds and I couldn't even get to the bottom; Quantum reel, croix rod...gone just like that. Such is life I guess.

Sounds like the bad day of fishing I had a long time ago.I was fishing with my ex and just married. My hands were wet and my engagement ring flew in the lake and wedding band into the boat to say the least he was NOT happy. Good luck finding it.

I've lost the same rod twice. I had a nice St. Croix with a symetre reel that simply wasn't meant to stay in my position.

I lost it the first time while fishing in a walleye tournament on Lake Sharpe... Being in SD where two lines are allowed, it happened to be my second rod and was in one of my holders. I wanted to change the angle of the rod over the water so I was loosening the rod holder when all of a sudden it just dumped over (due to loosening it too far, too fast). The rod went overboard and I quickly threw a marker over the spot. After casting spoons for nearly 20 minutes, we decided to cast 10 more times each before giving up and resuming our tournament fishing. I snagged it on cast #8!

I felt pretty smart about it 'til this June when I lost it for good somewhere on Mille Lacs. It was in a rod rack and somehow managed to work itself loose and dumped overboard on the way out to the flats, crashing through big waves to get there.

I guess I just wasn't meant to have that rig.
