scsavre
Ok, so it was cool to see what people are using for Bass in general...How about just smallies. What are you guys using right now and what are our favorite baits for the fall. What are you favorite structures, areas, they should be coming back up on the shallow rocks now, if not already. scsavre
I hammered a few on a swim jig and twister tail last weekend. Seems a big spinner with white blades does pretty good in the fall for me each year.
kt
I was out this past weekend and they were still deep in the alexandria area. 14-20 feet off of hard bottom/rock humps. Caught them on tubes, cranks, dropshot, and carolina rigs. If the weather continues to cool like this it won't be too long until a lot of them start to move shallower. oleballcoach
Tubes, cranks, spinners and crayfish soft plastics for the shallow smallies, and the same things as they are deeper with a drop-shot mixed in. I love catching smallies on spinning gear.
Jig Master
Don't forget a gold 1/2 ounce trap.
RK
Hiya - Can really be anything goes this time of year depending on whether or not the fish have moved up at all. I tend to fish pretty fast with tubes on heavy jigheads snap-jigged off the bottom, grubs on jigheads, and flukes/jerk shads on jigheads. Drop shotting too once you find fish. When fish are up shallow, buzzbaits, shallow crankbaits, grubs and jerkbaits...Cheers,Rob Kimm
Cecil
Love me a big ol spinner bait in the fall
tgruenke
I was getting some good bites fishing for walleye's with a 3 inch gulp alive minnow on a jig head. Even the smallone just enhaled the thing.
TonkaBass
I second cecil with a big tandem chartreuse blade and add a jerkbait to the mix...
TurnUpTheFishing
I love suspending jerkbaits when the water is cold.
scsavre
Well, I think I am going to look up shallow and the transition water. Starting out with a tube, a texas rigged plastic crawfish, shallow crank and a big spinner. With tubes, do you guys conceal the jighead, if you using a jighead. RK, nothing happening shallow up there yet? I am on the Zebra muscle lake and managed a few pigs near docks last weekend. Heading up again for some Muskie/smallie action. Saw some nice fish in some transitional spots, scarce weeds leeding to shallow rocks.
RK
Hiya - Was kind of hard to get a read on what was happenin last weekend. Pretty nasty cold front so everything was a little off. I fished smallies one morning and managed some fish on a couple deep humps but it was slow overall. Kind of expect things to be better this weekend. I may be on your lake at some point actually - if you see a Tundra with a walk-thru, flag me down.As for tubes, I usually do use an internal head. A lot of tubes don't have a solid head you can slide up on a keeper on a mushroom or ball head. One exception is the Berkly Pro Tube, but they're sometimes hard to find. Northland's tube heads are awesome. Great hook on them... On your lake a fluke/jerk shad on a jighead is pretty good too. They're fish eaters in there... scsavre
Rk,It was tough last weekend, your right. Things should be better this weekend. I will keep my eye out for you. I have about 8 other boats doing a just for fun bass tourny on saturday. Figured I would target the big smallies, rather then the small large mouth out there. Godd luck!!Scott
