Ryan_V
Well, I finally did it. I had my old german shepard put down today. It was harder than I thought given she was my "farm dog". My kids have grown up with her and love her very much. She has always protected my place and my family and let me know when anyone steps foot on my property. But time crept up on her and her back wheels just didn't work anymore. I had the vet come out to my place as I thought it would be too stressful for her to get her to the vet. When it was time, I held her, petted her and thanked her for her service, that's of course after two burgers from BK!! She went peacefully. Always hard to put a dog down, but I owe her that. Her quality of life was not acceptable any longer, and I promise my dogs when it's time, I'll take care of them. I rescued her from the pound about 8 years ago, and I like to think she had a good life with us.Goodbye Eve,Rest in peace old girl, we will miss you, you were a good dog. Farmboy1
Sorry to hear about your Eve. It has to be one of the worst decisions in a guys life, but one we make for our friends.I try to convince myself it is just a dog, but they are way more than that. harvey lee
Sorry to hear of your loss Ryan.I had to put my baby down last winter and it is tough.I said I was done with dogs but I got another 4 weeks ago.Its a tough job to put ones pet down as they do become one of the family. One does do it as its best for the dog as there is no more pain. We do owe them that much.
MuleShack
Sorry to hear of the loss Ryan. Its too bad that our friends life with us on earth is so short. I too smiled when you gave her the burgers, I'm sure she was a great friend and family member and will be missed.
tweedlap
Ryan and Family,It is so hard to let a family member go. I hurts because of all thegreat memories we have of our friend.Your story brings back a wave of mixed emotions. It reminds me ofthe difficult times I have had letting go and then all of the greatmemories of friends past.Eve did have a better life than she could ever have dreamed off. Shehad friends, you and your family, who loved her. She even had a favoritetreat; the BK burger. The lesson we all can take from Eve's passing is that: don't hold on, don't make the pet suffer for days and weeks. We hang on for our own selfish reasons. Be the friend they need and say goodbye.RIP Eve.tweed
Ralph Wiggum
Rest in peace, Eve! And sorry for the loss. I haven't had to make that decisision yet, but I know it will be a tough one. Take comfort in the fact that she's in a better place, and remember the good years with her!
jigging-matt
Sorry for your loss. It is always tuff to put down a pet, but after all they do for us, to not let them suffer is the least we can do. I had to put one down not to long ago (just realized it was 4 years ago almost). I feel for you.
Cooter
Dang, getting watery eyes reading this. Mines only 2.5 years and hopefully it will be a long time before I have to deal with that decision. You obviously made the right one. Hang in there.
