Fun with a lesser yellowlegs.

Recommended Posts

This spring migration has been a frank disappointment in regards to shorebirds in Duluth, but this fellow was one of a few bright spots.

All images made with a SonyA300, Sigma50/500mm, iso400, f10, various shutter speeds, crops, USM. Comments and critiques encouraged.

Regards,

Shawn Zierman.

Time to eat.

Time to swim, and most shorebirds can swim in a pinch, even ones that you typically don't see in deep water.

Shake it off! And the first good look at the namesake.

Best for last. If you have never heard this species sing, yes sing, not call like the tew tew sound, but a rapid rich repetitive song.....Well it's a sound you won't soon forget. Like the song of the veery reminds me instantly of a dark forrested area, or the tinkle of a bobolink references a wide open grassy place, the song of the yellowlegs evokes migration in my mind, and places further north. It is a wild sound.
