st.paul park/ grey cloud

apegs

Recommended Posts

Just got my first boat its a dinky twelve footer with a 5 hp motor. Was thinking about going in the river launching out of st. paul park. Never been on the river befor( on my own boat) so wondering whats the current like and things of that nature. I plan on using caution but just wondering if its a bad idea on this type of boat. If I go i want to fish around grey cloud where there are some calmer water I would think.

I personally would not be going all the way down to grey cloud from st. paul park with a 5hp. If there is any wind I would not risk it down there. You can cut through one of the bays to get over into moores lake and then go through the inlet at the end of the lake to get to grey cloud. There is some good fishing around st. paul park as well. Any of the bays off the main channel will be good and wingdams always produce as well.

Prety dangerous idea IMHO - aside from wind there are barges and other large boats that heave pretty big wakes that could easily swamp a boat like that....one thing about running through that culvert at the end of Moore Lake is that you have to get out somehow....pretty long and dangerous ride and would you even have enough fuel on board for a trip like that? Boat sounds small enough to launch by carrying it in right where people shore fish at that culvert.

i however grew up duck hunting in boats that were that small or smaller and we would love 30 mile nw winds on the river with windchills around zero and a boat over loaded with decoys dogs and guns and ammo and people - so do i think you can do it - absolutely ...........................not wink
