types of food for Fishing trip

I am looking for some ideas of different types of food to bring up on a trip to Canada. This is not a fly in so weight is not an issue. In the past we have had hamburgers, brats, cold cuts etc. Just looking for some different ideas or items that have worked for your trips. We will have a group of 6. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Sam's club is a good place to go for shopping for trips. They have these sub sandwich packs with 3 different meats that will last a week for sure. A case of famous amos cookies, variety pack of chips, granola and/or cereal bars, case of orange juice bottles, couple boxes of little debbie snacks. I keep it pretty simple, so it's easy to pack a lunch for a day of fishing. As far as the dinner around the campfire, you can go as elaborate as you want. Burgers and brats are about as fancy as I get wink

Used to be some restrictions on meat products going into Canada. Might want to check a Canadian Customs HSOforum or talk to a customs agent. Also should find out about how much of anything you can bring with you. Might be limits on alcohol and tobacco.

I'm surprized no one has mentioned the good old standby of Spam. Cube it up in the morning with potatoes and eggs, fry up slices for lunch or dinner. Camping when I was a kid was never without spam and when I start up again I will bring it along as well.

I've been planning trips to Canada for years. We eat your standard scrambled eggs for Bkfst, a light lunch on the lake, then a feast at night. Some of our favorites:

- Steaks/Chops, Box Rice (Uncle Ben's, etc.), Garlic Bread (I get the thick Costco or Sams steaks)

- Spaghetti (easy/quick to prepare) - Noodles and Jar of Sauce

- Hamburger Hotdish (Hamburger, elbow noodles, cream of mushroom soup, corn)

- Walleye Shore Lunch style (Walleye, batter, and fried potatoes (fry 1 lb bacon, drain grease, add 1 whole sliced red onion, then 3 cans of canned-slices potatoes)

These meals work well at a resort, but also when camping.

We never skimp on our meals, no reason to.

One thing I do is make some soup, stew or chili ahead of time and freeze it in 1 gallon zip lock bags. I lay them flat in the freezer to freeze and then you have nice, stackable, delicous ice cubes to keep your cooler cool. i'll do this w/ spagehetti sauce too.

You can get 4 filet mignons from a warehouse store that begins w/ C for about $25. We individually wrap and freeze those.

On a fishing trip, I have found that to do the typical 3 meal deal, we are eating dinner and cleaning up dishes when we should be out fishing.

Now we typically eat only 2 meals plus snacks as follows:

1) Big breakfast

2) Snacks for in the boat

3) Big lunch (dinner type meal) late afternoon

4) Snacks in boat for evening fishing

If it is not a hard core fishing trip, I do the 3 meal thing.

Agree with the above post on dinner time. "Normal" dinner time does not work on a fishing trip.

I like the "set it and forget it" type meals. We do a porketta or roast every time. In the fridge to thaw as soon as you arrive. In the oven in the morning @ 200 degrees. 9-10 hrs later, fall apart done.

Anything you can prepare at home is a great option. A couple of pans of enchiladas, vat of chili, seasoned shredded chicken for chicken tacos, etc.

Over the years we have moved from feasts that require time to prepare and more time to clean up to great comfort food that gets us back on the water by 6 for the evening bite.

Great ideas everyone. It seems like we will not eat dinner until we all get back after the sun goes down. That is when I will make the meal. I really like the idea about set it and forget it. We do this with Lasagne and works really well. I have pre smoked and pre cooked ribs that I bring up so All that is left is put some char on them and they are done. I like the chicken taco thing. Any other ideas for a dinner. I think I am going to try and egg bake one moring and also do a French Toast Bake. Has any one tried a bake for B-Fast? Thanks for the info everyone.

Fish tacos no doubt, cliff bars for out on the water(very filling), Zahtarans jumbalia mix or black beans. Freeze a huge pan of lassagna to minimize cooking time. Those Lipton noodle packs cook up quick, the cheese or stroganoff an cheese type not the soup mixes. Tuna or hamburger helper, and no doubt a steak dinner.
