james_walleye
Really LMIT? So all these new football stadiums and baseball parks being built across the country are all privately funded? None of them are funded in some way from the public? Or maybe some Minnesotans are just like the people in all these other states. They like their sports franchises. All the $$ i spend on fishing and hunting, if i have to spend a few $ to protect my other passion i'll do it. The vikings are one of my favorite forms of entertainment. walleyes12
I totally agree 100% with lightningbg, If theres no vikings, I am not traveling to the twin cities, I am traveling out west for an additional hunting trip. The Vikings are the only thing that brings me to the cities.
Cooter
The Viqueens are what keeps me out of the cities. Its bad enough smelling that stink over here during a west wind. If there were more true fans and fewer fair weather pretenders there would've been a new stadium years ago.

What's the hold up?If you want I'll post the mailing address to Zygi's billion dollar company on the east coast where you can send your check. Post it....I'll send them a check if it means they'll stay in Minnesota. I only wish there was a way to black out the games for the "rubes" who are so against spending any money on this stadium so only the people who are passionate about our team and willing to pay for the stadium to keep them here can watch it and the rest of you can watch nascar or something. james_walleye
LMIT i've played this game with you before. If i knew that sending in a check would guarantee a stadium i would have sent it already.
Cooter
Nice comeback croix! Honestly though you guys have no idea what good beer, cheese, and especially football are.
croixflats
I think we can call it a draw for beer, I'll give you the cheese as I frequent the Bass lake Cheese factory by Somerset often, I can attest to the awesome cheese. I just have to respectfully say " Are you crazy thinking you no what good football is, were not talking soccer you know." Ah shucks I call that a draw to. Cooter
Actually you can take the award for beer - even with Leinies in spittin distance I keep a safe distance from it. Not a fan of what comes out of LaCrosse either. Not a Grain Belt fan either and don't know what else comes out of MN. I'd agree we take the cheese category. Football I have no problem calling it a draw, I'd love to see them battle for the division from beginning to end this fall.

Keep in mind, there is probably more revenue coming in from the advertisers targeting those "rubes" than is coming in from fans sitting in the seats. If it wasn't for TV, the NFL wouldn't be what it is today.
eyehunter
Yeah.....I know that....just sick and tired of all these people pi$$in and moaning about building the Vikings a new stadium after the Twins and Gophers both got one. When you walk up to the MetroDome and look at the parking prices right down by the dome it says Viking Parking $25, Gopher Parking $15, Twins Parking $5. Goes to show you right there that the Vikings are worth more to this state than the other two combined. I know that the Twins have a lot more games in a season than the Vikings so don't even get on me about that either. If you don't want to pay for the stadium, then either shop in Wisconsin or move and quit complaining about it. I am a die hard Vikings fan, if they are allowed to leave the state because we can't get a stadium built I will move. All of those Millionair players all have houses in the state and pay taxes just like the rest of us.
LMITOUT
$5 billion in debt. This is not the time for a welfare program for a billionaire team owner.Anybody can be passionate about a particular item, and in this case the Vikings, but don't be myopic about it. There are hotter irons in the fire that need to be dealt with before we go handing out straight cash homey.

LightningBG
Eyehunter, dont those coordinates put you a whole long way from the TC? Maybe easier to swallow a tax funded stadium when your out of the metro and not getting dinged for every little "special project" the state is trying to come up with. eyehunter
Boy I knew I would get jumped on for that post....Saying that I would leave the state is a figure of speech. I just don't want to see them leave. I am just tired of hearing all these people complain about having to fund a staduim after the twins and gophers each got one. I feel the Vikings just as much an asset to the state than either of them, but then again I am a football fan and not so much a baseball fan. I just get so mad when I think of the team leaving the state because they can't get a new stadium. We could sit here and argue about it all day long, everybody has an opinion on it and it's different than the next guys.I knew I should have stayed out of this one, so I'll do just that. You guys can argue all you want over this one.

toughguy
Like it or not the Vikings are a big part of life for many who live in this state. So big that many would be willing to pay an extra tax for them. I realize not everyone feels that way and that's ok. Not everyone felt the same way about the added sales tax for arts and outdoors either. The Vikings provide a good reason to get together with family and friends. They provide an entertaining distraction from the daily grind. To many in this state vikings games on Sundays in the fall are as much of a tradition as Thanksgiving turkey. Right or wrong, (I think 99% us can agree it's wrong) paying for a portion of pro sports stadiums with taxes is basically a requirement to keeping a team in today's world. The problem is if we won't pay up another city will. Keeping the Vikings and not paying for a portion for the stadium is just not an option. That's fine if you're of the opinion to just let them leave, but saying they should have to stay in the dome and like it is like going pee into the wind. I hope the legislators can come up with a creative way to keep them here having as little impact as possible on the paying public but bottom line I hope they stay. toughguy
I think it will come down to racino or riverboat gaming. I would be fine with rental car, prosports merchandise and hotel taxes too.
PierBridge
I don't see much of chance of a Racino with both party's being influenced "Bribed" by the current gambling monopoly in place.
