Pedro?

Okay, I understand Pedro is past his prime but I think he showed he still has gas in the tank last year. Since he's still unsigned why dont the Twins pick him up at veteran minimum and have him as a middle reliever get rid of Mijares? I strongly dislike Mijares.

I'm sure they'll get rid of him since you don't like him. Lots of teams like to replace their left handed relief specialist with an aging right hander. Mijares was one of the best in the business last year and pitched great after they had to send him down for awhile.

I agree. He pitched what? Two-three times this year and you already want to dump him? Late last season he was virtually unhittable. Span is only batting like .160 right now, should we dump him too?

I understand where you're coming from with regards to him being a left hander, but a specialist?! Ha. Hardley. Maybe a specialist on getting lucky if anything. He will not be around past this year. Not because I dont like him but because he is not as reliable as his stats may or may not show. With Neshek out last year, Mijares overall got more appeareances. I understand there are lefty, righty situations but we need a different left handed option. Period.

Maybe its not a Pedro, drop Mijares discussion but Pedro is a great one season option. If age is your excuss I can come up with a mile long list of aging player in many sports that have produced at high levels...

Pretty sure that wasnt my logic. The guy is garbage. Period. When you dont have options, which we didnt last year, a guy gets innings. What's a middle releivers role? To reliably chew up innings. Mijares is relaible? No. Lucky if anything. The guy has NO confidence. I dont trust him as far as I can throw him and a guy that size cannot be thrown. He is the weak link on the team. He IS our Achilles' heel. He will not be here beyond 2010.

Chewing up innings? That wasn't his role. 71 appearances and 61 innings pitched last year. He was brought in to get a couple of key outs usually a left handed batter was involved although he was effective against righties too. 2.34 era last year. I'd be surprised if any Twins reliever had a lower era last year, maybe Nathan. Pedro may have something left but I can't see how he would fill Mijares' role.

Pedro is going to sign with a contender with starter troubles out of the #3, 4, or 5th spot and he won't sign untill late in the season so he doesn't wear out his old arm.....Pedro is not even close to what he used to be and as him being on the Twins........NOT A CHANCE!!

Pedro not being close to what he once was is better than Mijares will ever be. I don;t care if Pedro pitches righthanded or underhand,, he's the best pitcher of my generation and I'am 36.

Pedro's lifetime of over 10K per 9innings pitched is 3rd best all-time.

What do relivers need most--- a K.

I'd take Pedro.

Yep get rid of a lefthander that had a .222 ERA last season. No offense but not even the dumbest manger in little league would even suggest this!

I vote this absurd suggestion as the leading contender for preposterous statement of the year! crazy

and most of those teams other than the Royals would be AAA teams.

Seriously-- Pedro in his downturn for one year compared to Mijares??

PLease-- PEdro can still get a few outs, not as many as before, but he can still get a batter out and set up a closer.

I think someone logged-in under Mudds account because normally he's top notch in the Twins forum!

You couldn't find one baseball manager, General manger, President, owner or ball boy to do what you are suggesting here. It's Ludicrous and I'm not talking the rapper... smile

it's the real me,, (thanks Pier) just think Pedro for a year in the pen (no more) would be a good deal-- especially this year. But been wrong before.

Lefties are hard to come by, thats for sure. gotta give Mijares more time in crunch situations,,( I think scary) but we will see. I wanna win this year!!!!

Still not totally sold on Rauch,, but as another poster said, Andersen does wonders with lots of pitchers and Rauch seems to have the mentality of that killer insticnt at the end with good to sometimes great stuff. His change/slurve is under rated.

I'd like to have Pedro for sure for a year also just not at the expense of giving up on Majerus I guess! Doubtfull Pedro would want that role anyway IMO!

So I may have mis-understood you but to the original poster....ah never mind

Go Twins! grin

Yah - its tough to give up on a guy that did so well last year, has major league stuff, and is the youngest arm on the staff. 2nd youngest on the team I think, only Delmon is younger.

He could beef up (pardon the pun) his commitment level though: missed Twins fest, late for spring training, weight issues etc. Maybe that's just growing up.

I agree, PB, I don't think Pedro would except a bullpen role.

Mijares proved today that he can be terrible in non clutch situations also. I believe the only reason he was left in for the whole inning is because we were up 8 to zip, so we all got to get a good luck at how bad he can be. If we're lucky, these are the only situations we'll ever see him pitch in.
