Why I go to the lake.....

Here goes:

-Stress reliever after a bad day at work or other complications
-Scenic sunsets (why I like evening fishing better than AM)
-Beats playing PC fishin games
-just to get away from the reality, mass production, crowds (well.. except on opener...) and time hustle of everyday life.

I've got a very good reason for going "to the lake." I live on the shore of one.

All of us have different reasons for wanting to get out on the lake, what are some of yours?

I'll start it off...

• Enjoying tranquility sunsets while listening to a loon sing its song
• Watching the world come alive again as the sun starts to break through the treetops
• Watching friends and family’s eyes light up as they watch their bobber disappear under the waters surface, anxious to see whats on the other end of that line
• CAMPFIRES and the good times that go with them
• Feeling the wind blow through your hair as you race to that next “honey hole”
• And last but not least… Hearing “You better get the net for this one!”

Why do I fish???
To remember what is important in life.
To remember the sound of "peace and quiet"
To keep sane
To build memories with my Dad
To see the world as it should be
AUGH WAY TOOOO DEEP
I fish because I NEED to fish
Subject is a little rough as we just got back from Vermilion..(sigh) and am attempting to get back into reality in Dallas. We ARE planning the great TX escape....Only a matter of time till we will be back to stay smile.gif

(#1) I'M PROBABLY ON VACATION!!!
-There's no current so I don't need a 100lb anchor (if I need one at all)
-Loons (nothing else sounds like em)
-Waves lapping at my boat and making me walk funny for the next day
-Beer ALWAYS tastes good on a lake! (makes me walk funny too)
-The best stargazing I've ever found
-You're usually with your best pals

Great thread... here's my 2 cents worth...

To decompress after a week of work.
To see the look on my son's face when he outfishes me (again).
Loons (I like that one too).
To know that long after I'm gone my kids will remember the time spent on the lake with dad.

Ya gotta luv da loons!!

The gentle hum of the Mercury, building
up rpms and slowly coming up on plane!!

The pre-sunrise and sunset lighting effects
always humble and invigorate one's soul!!

Fresh air breaking through the fogginess
of a late campfire counsel!!

Of fog, heavy ground fog out on the water
so it seems you are floating on clouds
(also,partially caused by late campfires)!!

The zzziiinnngggg of one's drag being broke
followed by a call for the net!!

Having vacationed in MN when I was an little kid back in the 60's I have such vivid memories of the 2 weeks we spent each year camping primitive at Big Winnie. 6 years ago my wife and 2 children went to Spooner for our family vacation ( I was so excited) and the first trip I took out on the water made me cry like a baby. These memories are so special. We now come to Vermilion (3 years running and reserved for the fourth) and you know something, I still don't understand why spending time casting all day with your family is so special. I just know that it is and that's all that matters. Same is true when we fish here in Indiana. It sure beats the heck out of running around chasing soccer and baseball games like most of the parents my age do. My kids love to fish and that is a blessing beyond words!

1. No worries, They only worrin that I have is to gatch dinner.
2. It's just plain fun.
3. Even if you do't catch anything it was still better than spending time at home doing hose chores.
4. To get away from the woman that don't let me fish more often. (and then wounders why I spent more time on fishingmn.)

I fish for several reasons, some already stated,

1) relaxation
2) "god does not deduct from a mans life the days he spends fishing" I wanna live forever!
3) at 38, hangovers hurt more, so it beats bar hoppin' and I found a great woman so dont need to chase them anymore.
4) I love fresh fish for dinner.

Why I go to the Lake.

Whith the fast paced world we live in today everyone needs an escape. The lake provides a place to just let it all go.
I gues I have been lucky to grow up going to the lake with family. I started going to the lake with my grandfather when I was a young boy. He taught me how to fish, drive the boat, navigate the lake, and appreciate what I had. When I was a teenager I went to the lake with my parents instead of staying home and partying with friends. Now I'm married and we are expecting our first child. I hope I can take my children to the lake and share with them the things my grandfather and father taught me.
I can't guarentee that I can teach them how to catch fish but I know I they will learn the love of the lake and the solitude it provides.
Just my opinion.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
