Nainoa
Say I'm looking for a place on a lake (Preferably within a 2 hour drive of St. Cloud) where one can do some primitive camping in relative isolation.I'm an aspiring writer looking to do a little bit of a Henry David Thoreau type of thing for a couple of days this summer. Looking to do a little Fish-Hike-Be alone with one's thoughts in the wilderness type of thing.Anyone know of such a place?

Nainoa
I actually live on an un-navigable stretch of Mississippi... Any hints on good spots?
Redlantern
A bit north of Grand Rapids is a primitive area called Suomi Hills.
pushbutton
just head down the freeway to Maria State Park...there are only 2 sites on bjorkland(sp?)lake...they are close to a mile in and you can catch a few toothy critters without even trying. Don"t let the lack of distance deter you, it is a nice secluded place....Mr. T didnt live that far out of town either.
titelines
You could try Tettegouche State Park. They have rustic type cabins that are surrounded by three lakes. You have to hike in a couple miles and they are very cool.
minndonn
Try some state forest campgrounds. Often near empty on weekdays.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Try some state forest campgrounds. Often near empty on weekdays. These are the best kept secret if you don't need a shower while camping. Unfortunately my wife insists on flush toilets and showers.
