sufix line

I spooled 2 reels up with the suffix ice this winter a 2# test and a 4#. The 2 stays nice and supple even in colder weather, the 4# seemed to have more memory when coming off the reel which would make it difficult to use for panfish but isn't really an issue when using heavier terminal tacklel like small spoons and such. Haven't had issues with breakage and it seems to hold knots well.

I had seen the shiney packaging for this line for a few years prior to buying it last summer for fishing. In my opinion it is the only thing i will use any more. The bright orange really helps with watching for strikes, and it seems to be stronger than most of the other leading manufactures for mono. I have 12 lb on one of my ice fishing rods and it seems to work good in the cold too, so there are no downsides i have found. I never use leaders, so i go through quite a bit of line so abrasion isnt really an issue. I also went back to power pro late this season and you can feel the strkes MUCH better than with mono, however without the stretch it seems like you lose fish more often.

Hiya -

I use Sufix Elite on some spinning rods. Been great stuff so far. Handles nicely and pretty abrasion resistant. Have not tried the Siege, which is a more durable and therefor somewhat stiffer mono. I'll try it when my current supply of Big Game runs out - which may be a while...

Cheers,

I use Sufix performance braid on some of my baitcasters and it's some really good stuff. The line is really round and it stays round no matter how much you fish it. It's probably the best performing braid I have ever used.

I'm gonna try the Sufix 100% fluorocarbon this year. I'm hoping it's as good as their mono and braid.

I love the Sufix braid, I was turned onto it a few years ago and have been much happier with it over Power Pro, fishing for big Cats.

Because of that positive experience I tryed the Ice Magic this year and it was horrible. Uber memory and very weak. I lost several fish due to random break offs. mad

I guess I've only used Power pro, Fire line, and Spider wire when it comes to braids but out of the three I've really liked the power pro. It does have it's pros and cons however and I was wondering about this Suffix braid. How do the two compare? I like the sensitivity - feel, castability, strength, and suppelness of the power pro but was wondering how the Suffix braid compares in those catagories. The only issues I've had with power pro is an occational knot slipping and random brake offs while casting buzz baits for some reason.

I was a rabid PowerPro user, switched to Sufix last year at the beginning of open water. Sufix is rounder and more colorfast. It is also not nearly as stiff and very soft to the touch. It is a superior product IMO. I also had a couple packs of defective PP that had clumps embedded in the line every so often, both times Shimano replaced them when I sent in a 30' sample.

The reasons why I prefer Sufix over Power Pro is because Sufix is smoother, rounder, thinner, doesn't have a wax coating, doesn't fray as much (strands of thread coming off line), color stays on a little longer. But I will say that PP's breaking strength is a little better than Sufix. But that could be due to the thicker diameter of the line. 30-lb test PP will be thicker than 30-lb test Sufix.

Anyway, I ran across this site and it baffled me. Why would Shimano Europe be endorsing Sufix when everyone knows that they are the makers of Power Pro?

My bet would be that there was a contract in place between Shimano Europe and Sufix before Shimano purchased PowerPro a little over a year ago.

Walleye365, you made a good choice!

Have been using the 8lb siege(blue box) mono for a couple years for crappies/walleyes and am very impressed with it. First time fishing with it I was slip bobber fishing in wood and straightening hooks and sliding sinkers to the hook and could hardly notice any scuffing going on. Was sold instantly, handles well too.

Rapula bought Sufix in 2008.

Distribution Joint Venture for Russia and Ukraine

Rapala VMC Corporation (“Rapala”) and Shimano Inc. (“Shimano”), one of the leading manufacturers of rods and reels worldwide, have decided to strengthen their distribution alliance in Russia and Ukraine by establishing a 50/50 joint venture company in Finland, controlled by Rapala. This joint venture company, Rapala Shimano East Europe Oy, will acquire existing Rapala distribution companies in both of these countries. As a result of the new joint venture, these distribution companies will start to distribute, in addition to their current product offering, Shimano reels, rods and other Shimano fishing tackle products on exclusive basis. The distribution company in Russia will also start to distribute Shimano bicycle parts.

“This is a historic and very important new step in the development of our distribution alliance, which will be a win-win concept for both parties and create a strong fishing tackle distributor in East Europe”, says Jorma Kasslin, CEO of Rapala. “We are happy to extend our distribution alliance and to join forces with Rapala in East Europe, which is the fastest growing market area in fishing tackle and sporting goods”, say Marc van Rooy, Managing Director of Shimano Europe Holding B.V. and Pierangelo Zanetta, Managing Director of Shimano Europe Fishing Holding B.V.

This transaction is expected to be completed and closed by year-end and it will create a capital gain of some 4.8 MEUR for Rapala. It will have next to none effect on 2007 net sales but it is expected to increase Rapala’s net sales more than 10 MEUR in 2008.

Already before this transaction, Rapala distributes Shimano rods and reels and other Shimano branded products in South Africa and 20 countries in Europe. Shimano distributes Rapala branded products in 4 countries in Europe.

Rapala to Issue 889 680 shares to Shimano for 5 MEUR

Rapala Board of Directors has, based on the authorization of the shareholders’ meeting held on April 4, 2007, decided to issue in deviation of the shareholders’ priority 889 680 new shares, representing a 2.3% shareholding in Rapala, to Shimano (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. The share issue is part of the above mentioned arrangement of the distribution cooperation of Rapala and Shimano in East Europe. The funds generated through the share issue are intended to be used to strengthen the sales and marketing of Rapala’s and Shimano’s products in Europe.

The subscription price per share is EUR 5.62.

The subscription price is the weighted average price of the shares in Rapala from June 27 to September 27 on the OMX Nordic Exchange (Helsinki Stock Exchange). These new shares will not give right to dividend paid from financial year 2007. Shimano (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. has agreed to subscribe the above new shares, and there is a lock-up period of 12 months.

The total number of outstanding shares after the issue of new shares is 39 468 449. EUR 80 071.20 of the subscription price will be recorded in the share capital of Rapala, and the share capital after the issue of new shares will be EUR 3 552 160.41. The trading of the new shares is expected to commence at the end of October.

“This share issue is part of the arrangement where Rapala and Shimano strengthen their long-term distribution cooperation and it will support Rapala in exploiting the quickly increasing fishing tackle business in Eastern Europe. Shimano’s product range compliments Rapala’s product offering very well. Together we are stronger”, says Emmanuel Viellard, Chairman of Rapala Board of Directors.

The new shares shall be subscribed for by paying their subscription price on 12 October 2007 at the latest and the new share are expected to be registered approximately within the next two weeks.
