Denali vs. Yukon

Recommended Posts

Im looking at some 03 and 04 Denali's & Yukon's. Other than the trim, does anyone have and likes/dislikes of the AWD/6.0L Denali as compared to the push button 2WD/4WD 5.3L Yukon??

Would I expect any difference in mileage? I am used to the push button 4WD 5.3L of my silverado and I like the option of me being able to switch back forth, but im not dead set on it. I have a good price on a Denali that I am interested in but just have no experience with the straight AWD.

Any and all info welcome!

Mainly, I'd be prepared for a substantial difference in mileage. The 6.0 has great pulling power but you will pay in fuel. The full time AWD will also cause it to use more.

Other than that the Denali is fine and has some niceties you cant get on the Yukon, but I'd personally opt for the 5.3 Yukon.

i'm not sure if this common or its just mine

i have a xl yukon

and compared to surburban theres a road noise i dont care for

not sure why

i've owned surburbans over the yrs

and drove a couple at dealers to see if it was me but there was a difference

i treid new tires didnt really help

denilis might be alittle smoother i dont know

might be something to think bout to if all those wheels are pulling

I've got a 04 Denali and have enjoyed it since purchasing last Winter. My only issue is gas mileage. 14 mpg highway on a good day. Having captain's chair's in the back is a nice bonus and she tows nicely with plenty of power. I like em'.

Thanks everyone for the input.

It seems like I dont really do much better than 15mpg with my 02 silverado 1500 anyway so it doesnt sound like going to this denali will be much of a change for me.

Some friends of ours have an 03 denali and averaged 18mpg hwy when I was on a trip with them. I dont know whats up with that one that its getting much better than others have reported but the # is right.

I would keep the pickup but I need a more family friendly vehicle. I could go with the yukon xl but it just so happens I found a denali we like. Checking it out tomorrow, Ill let you know what happens.

So I picked up the Denali I have been looking at.

The mileage seemed to be better than what I had expected. I put on 260 interstate miles against a stiff NW headwind yesterday driving about 75 and averaged 14 mpg. Seems like driving 65 without the wind should get me 16+mpg, and im happy with that. It isnt worse than my 02 silverado!

The vehicle looks sharp and I think I will be happy with it. Im looking forward to the first chance to pull my boat...for more reasons than one!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
