james_walleye
Didnt Favre get flagged on that play??? Pretty sure thats all any vikings fan was looking for on the play. The NFL reviewed the tape already and said the call should have been made so no need to sit and try to convince anyone that he was simply just blocked into Favres knees because that obviously wasnt the whole story. Eric Wettschreck
You gotta be kidding me. I think QBs take some nasty hits. Sure seems a lot of them get injured every year. I'd like to see you stand in their while some of those big, fast and nasty D-linemen were bearing down on YOU. I think YOU would be the one crying. Pay me quarterback money and I'll stand in there, take the hit, and smile. There's no crying unless you're a girl. Bunch on Nancies lately. It's football. It's a violent game. People get paid a lot of money to get hit and yes, they get hurt. Iffin they're going to act like a bunch of whining girls they should take off the pads, put on a dress, and take up cross stitching. kitchy
Didnt Favre get flagged on that play??? Pretty sure thats all any vikings fan was looking for on the play. Yep, he did. But Allen's hits did not get flagged. The point is....sometimes you get the flag, sometimes you don't. And my comments were motivated by all the posts claiming that the Saints played dirty. I was pointing out that the Vikes have had their share of dirty plays also. People in glass houses......

I would not waste my time trying to convince any Vikings fans that the hit was justified? Nobody will buy that. Just stating what I saw on the replay. No sense for people trying to convince me that Thomas did not make that 4th down conversion or that Bush did not make that touchdown either. In both cases the NFL reviewed them, so obviously the objectors to these calls don't have the whole story either.
FutbolGuru
And my comments were motivated by all the posts claiming that the Saints played dirty. I was pointing out that the Vikes have had their share of dirty plays also. People in glass houses...... Playing tough (dirty) defense from time to time is one thing. Publicly announcing before the Super Bowl that your game plan on defense is to injure the opposing QB is another thing all together.

I dont recall Leslie Frazier publicly making statements about hoping the opposing QB doesnt get up as Williams did about Peyton Manning. Thats just a bit of difference..... Publicly announcing before the Super Bowl that your game plan on defense is to injure the opposing QB is another thing all together. I'm pretty sure his comment was made tongue in cheek but that's just my take on it. If he truly was game planning to take out a player then I agree that is pretty bad. I just choose not to believe it. Do you honestly believe that he sits in practice and tells his guys "OK, when you tackle somebody make sure you give him a career-ending injury". james_walleye
I dont know if hes outright telling anyone on that defense to purposely take out Mannings knees. But i firmly believe they intended on inflicting pain to Favre, and would like to do it to Manning. He stated to someone and i will try to find the quote, but basically if you have a shot to take it and if it results in a 15 yard penalty, so be it. The intent is to rattle the QB and he stated a 15 yard penalty to get it done is no matter. If he is stating this in the media, whats being said behind closed doors? kitchy
I think most people will agree that hard hitting is part of good football. Especially when you are trying to derail an effective passing game. Pretty much how the Giants beat the Pats in the SB. If he is traininig assassins then I agree that is pretty bad. The interview I heard he basically was stating that he trains his guys to play hard and when you do that you sometimes end up with calls against you. He wasn't going to let a penalty "tame" his game plan because that just makes everybody tentative and they don't attack. I think we're just interpreting his intentions in different ways. I in no way condone premeditated injury infliction. Probably going to hear about it but I also think fights in hockey are a joke. In my opinion, you fight, you get ejected. On the otehr hand, a good slam into the boards is part of the game.
JBMasterAngler
I think it would be safe to assume the refs are going to have loose flags on sunday given the vikes game controversy. So the saints won't be able to afford to pop manning too many times...not that indy's o-line will allow it anyway.
LMITOUT
I wonder if Manning has seen these pictures yet? That's Favre's ankle and upper leg after the Saints game.

zepman
I've seen lot's of hammies look like that but that ankle looks down-right nasty. They would have him ready to play in the Superbowl.
fishersofmen
Dang that ankle is nasty. The 12 mill. must make it feel a little better though. The guy is a player that is for sure. How many players would have been crying on the sideline not even considering coming back in the game.....
Cooter
I think we need a chart showing the odds those pics are legit.
SkunkedAgain
Exactly! I remember in HS football how we would all get beat up. Our right tackle would come in every Saturday morning for our workout covered in big, purple bruises. I wouldn't have a mark and we were both getting clobbered the same. Some people bruise easily. Heck, I look wrong on Mrs. SkunkedAgain and it looks like she took a fall down the stairs.Williams didn't say he was going to injure Manning. He said he was going to hit him. Any defensive coordinator that isn't out there to hit the opposing team won't be a winner. Sending the troops after Favre was just like sending Boogaard, Scott, and Clutterbuck into the game to hit the other team. It's borderline on the rules but definitely a part of the game as we all know it. More over, it sucks worse when your team is on the receiving end instead of the giving end
LMITOUT
So where were all the cheap shots last night? Looks to me like the Saints got it done and didn't really have to put Manning on the ground. Either that or Indy's o-line isn't a sieve like the Vikings' o-line. Mind games are a wonderful thing and the Saint's D-coach played everyone like a fiddle.
james_walleye
I don't think its surprising a team couldnt get to Peyton Manning. You ever stop to think the colts played more max protect than the vikings did? Thats all fine and dandy, but the tradeoff is Manning doesnt have as many options to throw to. As much as the saints hit Favre the vikings really didnt have to much problem moving the ball. The problem was holding onto it. I guess its all how you want to play it. The vikings could have played more max protect but do they rack up almost 500 yards? Favre got hit but he wasnt getting sacked for negative yardage. No doubt though that the colts o-line is more stout in the pass game. Its also alot easier to play a 3 man front and drop 8 in coverage against a team that isnt as likely to try and run it down your throats, although the colts did have some success running early. One of the aspects on NHL hockey.
