MN Greenheads
Guys I am in charge of finding a nice resort for some very urbane guys from Chicago. They are very polite and nice even though they are from Chi town. Roughing it isn't for them. I am having a hard time recomending a place to stay, as for me luxury is a cot in a tent and roughing it is bivouacing in the rain. They want a nice place to stay, food at the lodge or close at hand, they also want a guide and Northwoods Feel and are bringing a 12 year old. It is for a brothers birthday. They have $$ but not tons of it. Any ideas? Time of year? Good fishing? Right Resort? Thanks.
Scott K
Try Woodies Resort. I am going to be there this weekend. Check it out, I think it is exactly what you are looking for.
Jim Almquist
Woodies would be a good choice because you are on Rainy lake and looking at Canada when ever you look to the north. Another good choice would be Highbanks on lake Winnibigoshish. As far as time of year I would look at early to mid June for the most consistent bite with good temps. No matter what place you choose the 12 year old is going to have the most fun and will remember it for the rest of his life.
JohnMickish
The Casino on Vermillion. Food, booze and entertainment right there, great marina and a few guides to choose from as well.
fishwater
Nelson's resort on crane lake is also nice.
Cliff Wagenbach
The Casino on Vermillion. Food, booze and entertainment right there, great marina and a few guides to choose from as well. I'll second Fortune Bay Resort and Casino! Food right there, entertainment for both adults and kids, and a great marina. Also plenty of guides available!Early June or from mid-July into late fall!Walleyes, bass, pike, muskie and panfish.Cliff
DTro
From the sounds of it, they want some luxury mixed in with a Northwoods feel?In that case I would suggest a couple places on Lake Vermilion.Ludlows and Vermilion Dam Lodge and maybe even throw in Muskego Point. For me, its kind of tough to get the "Northwoods Feel" without being in the North half of the state, so really anywhere in the Arrowhead region would be my choice. JohnMickish
VDL is a great place and one of the most beautiful in the state, but I don't know if this crowd would be able to handle the lack of cell coverage in that area?? Great place though with a great harbor and hosts.
MN Greenheads
Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I had a tough one on this because I thought I could figure something out but it was always a little to rustic and rough for them. I'll forward all the info and let them decide. Thanks again. MN Greenheads
Oh yea, any ideas if they wanted a luxury trip in Canada? I talked to them about Canada but they said what they looked at was real spendy $3,000 per/person for 4 days- spendy. They have $$$ but still thought that was too steep a price. Thanks again. gregg52
not sure how far north you wanna goyou might want to check out the whitfish just north of brainerd lots of nice resorts with the up north feel lots of guides in the area and a number of places to eat on the lakes and off i think its an area the big city boys would appreciate the best of both worlds
bucketmouth64
You can also wait for the mpls. sports show in March and get some ideas and talk to resort owners and see pictures. There are so many possibilities that can offer that up north feel do you have an area in mind? What has been mentioned is good. As far as Canada you might want to try Temple Bay Lodge. I think they hava a bus that picks up in Chicago. Many other Canada places will be at the sport show too. Don't forget if you go Canada you need a passport. Melgeorge's Resort on Elephant Lake. Very nice. I tell ya what. Melgeorges has one of the nicest cabins I've stayed in, plus you don't get the Vermilion traffic. I forgot about that one Rick. A++You also have the Bear sanctuary pretty close. That's something you'll never see in Chicago.
