Because everyone has a little different opinion on this and handle it a little differently, the only thing to fall back on is the legal term of "personal space".

I agree with the Golden Rule, yet don't think that it's first come first served, or by drilling 100 holes entitles you to that area.

The big issue here is that people just don't respect each other anymore. I know there is no law where you can or can't set up a porty or just drill a hole but I look at it like if you went to a restaraunt and needed another chair, would you just take an open one from the table next to you or would you ask first? I could care less if someone wanted to fish 20' away from me, but ask first and respect the fact that I was there.

I was out on Waconia 2 days ago in my portable. I was fishing with others who had there portable set up on a somewhat community spot. I personally would have gone off by myself away from the crowds but wanted to fish by them.....

Anyways at about 4:45 a guy comes out with his son towing a permanent house. He parks his truck parallel to mine about 10' max away from my truck and proceeds to drop his house down and start the generator at about 5:15 (PRIME TIME!) and didn't shut it off the whole time we were there. Didn't see another fish on the Vexilar once he showed up. Needless to say it left me a bit ticked off and I may never go back out there... A bit pathetic if you ask me!

I moved the spear house today.

The ice is thick and it did take a couple hours to move.

Ended up right over the top of a bunch of sunken pillings, with deep water very close, and shallow water with weeds very close.

First house to set up on that side of the lake all year.

It took less than 2 hours and the tip up guys were drilling within 10 ft of my shack.

20 fishing groups on a 100+ acre lake; as soon as a house goes up they all flock. I wish I could spear without a house.

But in the end it is just what happens. No need to ruin your day. I did get a pike after they all left for the day anyway.

Just shows they have no clue where to go so "oh theres a house lets go by them" is what they do! Did you say anything? I know it perfectly legal for them but, seriously!

My feeling is that I will say something to the ignorant fools so that the next time they contemplate moving in on other fisherman that they'll realize that not everyone wants you setting up 20 feet away. Then I'll move.

Man this cracks me up. It is not so much of the respect thing (which is pretty much gone now a days) but the selfishness of everbody thinking they should be the only one in a specific spot. Maybe you were there first today but did you stop to think that maybe the people coming into "your" spot have been out there more times prior to you getting there. Not everyone has the privelege of owning gps with lake chips and vexilars and all the other bells and whistles to find fish. Some people only get out a few times and going to the popular areas is all they know. BIG DEAL. Or maybe they are scouting for a good spot to bring the kids out next time. Not all of us know these lakes as good as others and will go where we think the best fishing will be. When fishing in these "community" spots expect people to show up and fish by you plain and simple. If you don't like it move. I do fully agree though that if you drilled a bunch of holes to hole hop then respctfully no one else should be fishing those holes until you are done with them. I also like to be off by myself but expect that someone will be in the area before long. We are all out there to catch fish so stop acting like you are the only ones that should be able to catch those fish until you are ready to go. Extremely selfish in my opinion. Those of you are the ones giving us sportsman a bad name. Didn't your mama's teach you to share or are you the spoiled rotten ones who I have the least respect for. The world don't revolve around you and never will. This thread is crazy and makes me realize how disrespectful everyone can be at times. Those of us with portables have no reason to complain because it takes less than ten minutes to relocate and set up. But I guess laziness and selfishness is the real problem.

Agree tsande!! Fished Whiskey Flats on LOW a week ago. No house near us but a portable had set up so close to us that, with a tail wind and a full bladder, I could have frozen his door shut. My fishing buddy and I were laughing about how close he was when he comes out of the house, squats over the snow and dumps a load. The fishing was slow, but he kept us laughing the entire day. Only question is whether he is liable for the therapy cost of getting that image removed from the forefront of my memory.

Look at the story you would have missed out on if he didn't set up so close. winksmile

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
