I was just wondering if anybody has dealt with a noisey vex. I have a old fl-8 that screams when you turn it on. it has been replaced. I would like to use it for a back-up or extra. have any of you had this problem I talked to the guys at vex they said dont bother fixing just get a new one. just curios if anybody has taken thers apart is it a bearing or bushing thats causing this?

I have heard that even some new ones make alot of noise. that is why I like my marcum. it is nice and quiet. by the way I am not bashing vexs they are good but I prefer my marcum. if marcums where not out there it would be a hard choice to make between a vex or a h-bird.

If you want to give it a try on your own all you need to do is get a small allen wrench and take off the knobs and then the 4 screws off the back and it will come apart. You will see how the brushes and the LED spin around a copper colored round thing. That is the part that you should wipe down with WD40 on a rag making sure that none of the rag catches on anything or is left behind. While you have it off make sure to wash the cover on the inside because it will be filled with crude and I think you will be surprised how much brighter it will be. If it is still loud it may very well have to be sent in to have new brushes put in. When I did that to my old Hydex FL8 it was better then when it was new.

A contact cleaner/lubricant like DeoxIT will help on the brush contact points. DeoxIT will actually improve the electonic conductivity of the points and is made for these types of applications. It reduces wear too.

Also, check to make sure the disk (or part of it) isn't rubbing on the inside cover.
