coleman catalytic

I last fished with a white gas Coleman catalytic heater 20 years ago. In really cold weather it was WORSE than nothing - not enough BTUs to make a difference and all the fumes/Carbon Monoxide. I think my single mantle lantern gave off more heat!

I updated to a single burner sunflower and never looked back.

I use one in my 2-man flip when temps are above 20*. It's lightweight, easily packable, and puts out enough heat to stay comfortable at those temps. I usually use my heater/cooker when temps drop below that. The one I have is the newer propane type that is rated for (I think) 3000 btu. To be safe, make sure your shack is well ventilated.

The old type was white gas. I have a couple of those also but they've retired long ago. Those stink, a pain to light and keep lit, and if you search the forums, you'll find many carbon monoxide horror stories.

Mine was white gas and I can vouch for the horror stories.

I have held on to a lot of my old sporting goods but that was one thing I disposed of without compunction.
