Not to throw a wrench in things but if your coming from South or West your adding 1.5 hours of driving time to go to Finland. You could catch a trail near Twig, Hermantown, or Duluth and get on the North Shore trail.

Thanks for the suggestiong but I think we will stick with the plan to start out in Finland as it is a very nice area for a short day run with lunch and unloading-loading right there.

we are renting a cabin and a house from dennys resort, I am going with a few other guys, its the first time I will have fished that lake. Do you have any tips or suggestions for places to eat.

its a little drive for you well 9 miles

but the gosh dam place is good place to eat

very good food good place to drink to

if you bring your fish to them they will cook up for you

plus a big bowl of beans fries toast

there anthere place place right on 2 aways west only been there once its ok

but gosh dam is worth the drive

you should catch fish in dennys houses i guess he has them up by 3rd river

read BMCS post on winnie thread he did pretty good

My son and I might be able to make that day in Feb. I have a buddy and his son who might join us as well. He does not post on here. I ran into him tonight and passed it by him.

Are there some places to stay in Finland? We might come up in the evening on Feb 5 and stay overnight. That way we can ride on Saturday and head home that evening.

MNUser, good to hear you may make it. I know there is some motels around just don't remember the names. I know there is one right down off 61 where you turn up to Finland and one pretty cheap one in Silverbay right off the highway by the gas station. Try checking the Goog for the towns along the shore. If our travel inland the Knotted Pine has cabins at a reasonable price. You can sled right from their place.

i googled finland

appears there are 3 motels up there

i'm sure there are more

but thats all that showed up

one was right in finland

one was up by isabella

and one in silver bay

i called the one in finland

they only had 2 rooms

i'm not familiar with that area at all

can we ride out of silver bay to the trail

i would presume so

i guess we should see who all wants a room and see if we can get a block of them maybe save a couple bucks

i'll check on couple more

After we leave the Moose Walk trail it runs right into the Northshore trail and goes right into Silver bay or all the way up to G/M, if you find a room you want to stay in after Sat's ride. I may try and do the overnight thing anyother weekend later in the year after fishing is done.

up there i was lookin at the milege it was 45 miles to crooked lake 90 to gm

silver bay to finland was 17 or something like that i guess

where i 'm heading here is i'd like put on a few mile if i'm going to go up there its bout 3hr drive from here which is fine

but i want to rideeeeeeeeee should be some nice sceinery up that way

as mmnuser said he thought he might go up the nite before i think i would to

gregg52, again I think if we can all meet up at the place and time I posted earlier on Feb 6th at say 10:30am so everyone can get there. We can take the short but very scenic Moose Walk Trail. Go back to the bar for some lunch, check over the maps and come up with a longer ride up the shore from there. It would be nice just to meet a bunch of riders, take a nice ride together and then plan a longer ride for those that have time or are staying over night. I am ready to Ride as well, but also want to meet up with everyone that wants to go and then sets some plains with a map from there. The trails are endless from there up or down the shore. Lets just keep one meet up spot plan and then go from there. It's still a few weekends away and don't want people to get to worn out with details other then lets meet at one spot and plan the rest of the ride together.

i tried american inn they were full for that week end and the one right in finland only had 2

its right on 61 and 1he said something about having bonefires and things
