Vibrating Nils

O2Fish

Question

I've had my Nils for less than a year and have been noticing that it has been vibrating like crazy while idling. It shakes the motor and even the bit. Also, the bit will rotate without giving it any gas. I did some reading when I first bought it and i figured it just needed to be broken in. It is definitely past the break in period and seems to have gotten worse. Is there an idle screw that can be adjusted or is something else wrong?

Adjust the slow idle speed. Mine rotated like crazy when I first got it. Drop the idle speed until the auger does not spin unless you are giving it gas. Maybe the vibration is due to the high idle speed as well but I'm only guessing. The low idle stop screw is pretty accessible

If the lowering of the idle speed does not resolve the vibration take it into your local Tanaka dealer and it should be covered under warranty.

I do not believe you'll lose any top end on the Nils from adjusting the low idle. If you drop it down too low it will not want to stay running. But there's a pretty large sweet spot between those two extremes. Mine's a cutting machine and the only issue was the low idle being set too high so that it engaged the clutch.
