best hunting boots?

Hey not sure if there as been a discussion about this recently, but I am looking at some mid weight hunting boots semi multi-purpose from 800 to 1000 grams thinsulate.

Any opinions on ones to avoid....I have not heard alot of good about Rocky lately, although the ones that I am finally tossing out are 12 years old. I guess the quality has gone south fast. How about Cabelas brands, anyone own any of thiers? Looking to spend between around $150 or so...

I know it might be a bit of "Ford vs. Chevy"... but looking for some inside infor nonetheless.

I know Danner makes a good boot, more $ but worth it?

Danners are great,worth the money. If your looking for rubbers go with MUCK.

I used to be a Rocky guy but my last 2 pair of boots have been Irish Setter and I like them over Rocky. I bought a pair of 1600 gram last year and were comfortable right out of the box and still are in great shape for how much I use them and same with a light 600 gram pair I got this fall to replace my worn out rockys. I had my old Rockys for 3 years before blowing them out and they were the best boot I ever owned but my dad bought the exact same boot last year and it just isnt the quality of mine for some reason, dont know if they got that sloppy in that short of time or what but ive heard alot of people saying that lately. I did order a pair of Cabelas before I bought my heavy Irish Setters and they were a pretty good boot but just didnt keep my feet warm enough so got the Setters instead.

cabelas white tail extremes are a great boot, I absolutely love them, and yes rocky boots have went downhill very bad in the last few years which sucks, cause they used to be good, remember if you get cabelas brand, they will ALWAYS take care of you cause they have there name on them, and they do make a great boot, also danner makes a reaaly good boot if you want to go in adifferant direction.

Yeah I have heard some good things about Cabelas boots, and you have a good point of there possibly being better customer service should something happen to the boots. I will look closer at the one you mentioned.

I second Danner. I use them for both hunting/fishing and work. My last pair of boots for work lasted 8 years. I still wear them in the summer, but they are just not water proof anymore. I have also had a few pairs of Rocky boots, but they don't seem to last as long.

Danner does make good boots. I prefer Irish setters tho. I've had a couple pairs for upland hunting/cabin work and have no complaints. They'll last forever if you take care of them. My dad also has some old setters and has even had them re-soled i think (don't think you can do that with rockies).

The best boots I've ever owned are Wolverine's. I currently have a pair for work that are 3 years old and they get used and abused every day of the week but not problems yet. I have 2 pairs for hunting, one 1000 gram and one 400 gram. The 1000 gram boots are 5 years old and just bought the 400 gram boots this fall to replace a pair of Rocky's that were only a couple years old. They are definitely the most comfortable boots I've ever had on my feet.

I got the Cabela's "Outfitter" boots ... I was told they're made by Danner. Best boots I've ever owned. I've got 2pr, now ... one tall ... one, not so much.

I've had poor luck with Rockys. They have come apart at the seams. I tried Cabelas. A little over one year after I got them, they started leaking. Cabelas gave me a complete refund. I switched to Danners, and they have been great.

I love the feel of my Danners but give them a 1 out of 5 with the uppper lace "hooks". Very small and the laces never, never end up staying in them. I'm not the only one either. I end up having to always electrical tape the top part of the boots up so the laces stay in. After that, I give them a 5 out of 5.

Danner all the way. Yes, they are worth the extra ching and you'll never be sorry you paid a bit more. Cabela's always has $20 off coupons for purchases over $150.

As for the "small" upper hooks? I always wrap the laces around the boot a couple times instead of lacing all the way up. It works for me and seems more comfortable.

Well I went withe Cabela's whitetail 600 gram boots, seem very comfy and light on the feet, I tried some Danners on as well and might have went that way, but the leather was the deciding factor. I plan on using these for bowhunting after it's too cold for my rubber boots and too warm for my Ice Kings...I have had leather boots before that the leather began to stink after a while from being wet, the Cabelas boots have no leather so that was my deciding factor.

Although the smell that leather develops is surely from lack of proper care on my part, I don't see myself changing my habits any time soon so I went with non leather...

If they suck I will by Danner next time around. Also these boots had the second highest rating on Cabelas HSOforum, (Ironically the Danner Pronghorn had the highest).

Jus bought a pair of Pronghorns 1000 gram. Needed a new pair. I was going to go with less insulation, but I do alot of sitting when yote hunting figured the extra insulation would be nice. Glad I did, they are very warm and comfortable. A little more than I wanted to spend, but I think that they will be worth the extra $$$.

Note there are 2 types of Danners, the ones made in the USA and the ones made in China. I think you can do the math from this point....
