I have the "wand" version that has LEDs for overhead light and flashlight on the end. It is very bright and works just fine in the cold. The big benefit is that it comes with three type of power source adapters. I use the 12volt mostly. Also the unit itself keeps a charge. The fan/light version uses batteries which are expensive and loose charge in cold weather.

I have the smaller unit that uses 4 AA batteriies and was wondering if anyone can tell me how I could "hardwire" two of these, one for each roof hub on my 6 man Eskimo. Since they each use 6 volts (4ea 1.5 v batteries), could I just wire them in series and connect to a 12v battery?

+ of one to the - of the other and the + and - that are left to the battery.

I have been very happy with mine. Mine takes two D Batteries. I enjoy the pivoting light so I can set the unit on the ground and still use the light when I pack up. I do not like how the top, or the handle section comes off so easy. I almost dropped it already. I am going to use zip ties or electrical tape to secure it better. Wish they would have thought of that, I noticed that as I was putting in the batterie the first time. The fan is so quiet I have to check and see if it on sometimes. I do notice when it is off though.

You guys who are running the rechargeable Clam Wands...do you like them so far?

I like the versatility of use, and they can charge and run off many 12 V applications.

TIP: Add the 12 V power marine grade power receptacle to the Vex pack, and you now have back-up power options in the field to extend the use. A $7 upgrade to a Vexilar pack, 5 min installation time. A very handy deal in the field for many applications, like cell phone or GPS chargers. wink
